Journal Arts Club Set for First Meeting at Drama Guild

The Journal Arts Club, formed to revive campus cultural life, will meet tomorrow at 6 30 PM in the Richmond Drama Guild. Twenty students from Richmond and Westhampton Colleges plus faculty representatives attend. Prof H B Handy will preside and toast master. Mrs Eudora Richardson will speak, with A B Clark to address. The Messenger hosts the event.

Web Extends Time For Fee Delinquents at Richmond College

One hundred thirty two students out of two hundred seventy who had their pictures in the 1930 Web had not paid the balance for representation fees by February 5 and forfeited yearbook rights. The business manager extends the deadline to February 12 if payments or agreed dates are arranged, with final order details to be issued February 15. Some students have paid representation but not budget fees and will not receive a copy without full payment.

Alumni Chapters Expand Across State

Alumni organizatio n efforts spread as several chapters revive and new ones form. Washington D C alumni prepare to organize a city chapter including nearby territory with Rev Perry L Mitchell as organization committee chair. Seven Prizes Offered for Essays on Taxation of Land Values

The Robert Schalkenbach Foundation of New York sponsors an undergraduate prize essay contest at the University of Richmond. Seven prizes are to be awarded for essays on the subject Taxation of Land Values with first prize set at $100 and other awards following.

Preliminaries Set For Southern Debating Trip Team

Trials for the Southern debate tour with Wake Forest Duke Davidson Mercer and others will be held one evening next week in Room Eh of the Administration building. The Forensic Council announces the topic United States Should Renounce Its Extraterritorial Rights in China with entrants free to argue either side.

Harold Y Williams Speakers on Campus at Univ of Richmond

Harold Y Williams executive secretary of the League for Independent Political Action spoke to University of Richmond students in Chapel last Monday morning. He also addressed Dr Mitchells History Class and Dr Harlans Sociology class regarding social readjustment and the need to protect factory workers. He argued that independent action by loyal Americans is essential for justice to farmers and better international relations.

Westhampton Hosts Series of Dances and Prom Night

Westhampton schedules a Friday prom at the Country Club of Virginia with Frank Wendt’s eight piece orchestra starting at 9 30. The Seniors sponsor a Saturday tea dance at S P 2 House from 4 30 to 6 30 with Six Sons of Satan providing music and a one dollar couple rate.

Pi Delta Epsilon Defers Freshman Editorial Contest

Richmond College freshmen have until May 1, 1930 to submit original editorials for the Pi Delta Epsilon Annual Freshman Editorial Contest. If fewer than fifteen entries are received, the event may be cancelled. judges include Dr Goode and professors Handy and Doering. The winner receives a silver loving cup.

Reporter's Club Meeting Set for February 10 at 3 PM

The Reporter's Club of the University of Richmond Collegian will meet Monday afternoon February 10 at three o'clock in the Collegian office. Chairmen Mildred Bingham and Edward Overton will present schedules and future plans. All staff members are urged to attend.

Cast Chosen For One Act Play At Faculty Show

The cast for Aria La Capa Millays one act to be shown February 17 has been selected by Miss Brown. Roles include Columbine Roxanne Mathieu Pierot Dick Payne Corydon Louis Booth Thyrsis William Berry and Cothurnus Donald Pierpont. The Players will perform on a balcony stage above the Westhampton drawing room.

Y. W. C. A. Sponsors Discussion Group Opens Semester

Geo. W. Schools named chairman of the Y. W. C. A. discussion group for the second semester. Dr Relvix Harlan sociology professor will speak on Vocation and Avocation on Thursday February 13 at 7 o clock. The talks are informal with open forum participation and a monthly schedule to continue unless the committee cancels.
