Committee Endorses New Physical Fitness Program For Students
The Committee on Physical Education and Social Recreation proposes a university wide program at Westhampton and Richmond Colleges to ensure healthy habits and social recreation. Freshmen take required physical education. upperclassmen may repeat, join intercollegiate or intramural athletics or three hours of electives such as hiking tennis skating boxing bowling swimming rowing or distance walking under Athletic Department supervision. Hiking clubs and bicycling clubs are urged. gym access on date nights and coed tennis are proposed. Emphasis on sleep diet and balanced schedules with a 216 start for labs and afternoon classes.

Two Men To Fill Faculty Vacancies
Richmond College adds two new professors to replace teachers who resigned for national defense. Dr F W Boatwright announces the appointments. Roswell G Townsend acts as instructor in economics and government. David Rowe Arbenz becomes instructor in aeronautics. Townsend fills the post of A. F. MacDonald who left for the Office of Price Administration. Arbenz replaces Frank Crouch who went to Naval aeronautics training at Annapolis. Crouch earned a Richmond degree in 1940.

Westhampton College Enrollment Rises Despite War
Five new students join Westhampton College this semester under dean’s secretary Gladys Tatum with several more expected. Freshmen Inez Williams West from Richmond and Virginia Murray Thompson from Stuart return after a year, living in dorms. day students include Anne Katherine Fletcher from Duke and Elbert Billie Goodwin from Converse. One special student, Ruth Dalrymple, is also enrolled. War drives many upperclassmen into statistics courses for job prospects. Richmond College could not provide enrolment numbers.

Men To Sign Up For Army Draft On February 16
The selective service registration will be held at Richmond College on February 16 for men aged 21 to 44 born between February 17, 1897 and December 31, 1921. Unregistered men in this age range must register between 7 AM and 9 PM on the 16th. those aged 21 to 36 who registered in 1940 or 1941 are exempt. The registration committee is led by Chairman Ralph McDanel with Dr. Thomas E. B. Lavender, Dr. Edward Peple, Dr. Lewis F. Ball, Prof. Alton Williams, and Prof. William I. Caylor.

Richmond College Glee Club Seeks National Contest Victory
The Richmond College Glee Club, urged by Fred Waring, will make three recordings within six to eight weeks for National Glee Club Contest judgment. One content song, two other selections, sent to New York for a coast-to-coast broadcast if they win. The season opens with no departures anticipated except possibly librarian Lawrence Spiers. A Shakespeare burlesque is planned alongside previous productions.

Song Contest Set For February Eighteen Westhampton College
The Athletic Association of Westhampton College hosts a Song Contest February 18 at 7 15 P M in the gym. Each class selects a pep song and a proclamation song and draws another proclamation song from four chosen by the committee, plus an original pop song. Judging focuses on attendance discipline presentation and appearance. The winner receives a class numeral on a plaque. Judges are Mrs Frank Wendt Professor Esther Sylvia and Miss Jackie Lowe. Frances Badenoch, A A president, invites outsiders. Last year the Junior Class won honors. Lucy Mc Donough wrote the winning song published in the Westhampton College Handbook.
