Faculty-Alumni Lecturer Discusses Religion in Scientific Universe
Dr Fontaine Armistead, director of the Virginia Institute of Scientific Research, spoke on religion in an expanding universe noting the growing clash between faith and science yet arguing the conflict can be avoided. He cautioned against presuming God’s obsolescence as knowledge grows and entertained the idea that life creation by scientists might coexist with faith. The next Faculty Alumni Forum will feature Dr Louis Rodin Jr. discussing Mark Twain and Southern literature on February 16 in Keller Hall at 8:15 pm.

Chapel Prayer Room Dedication At Richmond College Convocation
Dr. L D Johnson chaired the dedication of a chapel prayer room given by the 1958 and 1959 Richmond College classes. The 1959 gift honors Claude W Estes Jr who died in 1958, with a plaque and a tape recorder for sacred music. The room is open daytime and furnished by a committee including Bill Baker Nancy Rae Taylor Baker and others.

The University of Alabama team reached the semi finals at the University of Miami tournament in Florida. Tommy Atkins ranked among the top ten debaters as Atkins and John Donaldson advanced to the final three elimination rounds against Duke Notre Dame South Carolina and others.
