Richmond College and Westhampton students will vote in chapel on nominees for the Who's Who contest run by the 1986 Web. Winners will have their photos in the annual once published, with secret results and tentative honor titles. Subscriptions end March 16.
The Richmond Sabbath Glee Club, twenty four Negro singers organized by Joseph Mathews, will perform at Vespers on Sunday night February 9 in the Cannon Memorial Chapel. The group has attracted nationwide attention with concerts from Chicago to Washington D C and recently before Mrs F Y Roosevelt and David Lloyd George. The choir previously sang here in February and the faculty vesper committee commends the students for their direction of the services.
Richmond College announces a basketball doubleheader with William and Mary in Millhiser Gym at 9:00. The schedule notes student activities for February including assembly, choir rehearsal, and a convocation address by Dr Boatwright.
Westhampton's Junior Class presents the annual Prom on Friday February 7 with a surprise musical arrangement. The figure is directed by Bernard Dabney and led by Margaret Mitchell junior class president, Carl Meadors and Margaret Turris. Officials from other classes join as escorts. Receiving line includes Margaret Mitchell and Marjorie Rivenburg. Class colors gold and brown to decorate.
The Richmond College Messenger, now in its sixteenth anniversary issue, is praised for its distinct, well written content. The editor notes the free campus distribution and lauds features like a dignified cover and a strong story with an O Henry style ending.
Youth leaders from the Bast orm district of Virginia gathered at the Y M C A in Portsmouth for a conference directed by Charles Ryland William Fallis George Harper and Fred Laughan. The sessions covered college matters and were by invitation of H E B Robinson traveling boys secretary of the State Y M C A. Over seventy boys attended and Plaming Padgett of Thomas Jefferson High School was elected president for the coming year.
Omicron Delta Kappa at Ep ailon chapter sponsors a non profit book exchange in the YMGC building from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Tuesday and Wednesday. Books are exchanged or left to be sold at student set prices with no money transfers. Individual students arrange any other terms.
The Richmond College debate team hosts Bridgewater on Thursday at 8:00 P M in the T C Williams Law School room. The question asks whether Congress may override Supreme Court rulings with a two thirds vote, with Bridgewater affirming and Richmond negating.
Westhampton’s Class of ’87 hosts Friday junior prom with a choice of decor including gingham or ultra modern styles. The event features orchestral relays, a grand entry by class officers, and a formal dance with a gavotte and polka to showcase the junior escorts.
Co-ords announce a Friday night formal card dance with a light program. the first match features a three minute bout between the Tatler and P.8 Bets on the outcome are open to Junior Class members with odds at five to two on Westhampton's entry. After the bout, revelers may go home when they are ready for bed.
Omicron Delta Kappa petition led Coach Thistlethwaite to approve February 28 and 29 as Midwinter dance dates in Millhiser Gymnasium. Interfraternity Council plans the set with Social Committee action likely. Rigmarole production on February 28 may shift to March 7 if ban is lifted.
The Westhampton College Industrial Commission will host the Central YWCA group Thursday at 7:00 in the Westhampton drawing room to discuss the Federal Social Security Act. Chairwoman Nancy Chappell will guide the dialogue on purpose composition finances and history, with focus on aid to the needy aged unemployment provisions and pensions for the blind and needy children. Dr. Susan Lough sponsors the Westhampton commission. The groups have met several times this year.
