The University of Echmond reports 24.45 total from men at Richmond College as its sympathy contribution to Europe and Asia. Per capitas show Jeter Hall at 3.704 and faculty 5.71. Completion and winner details delayed due to late or missing reports.
Freshman Banquet of the Class of 1924 drew 150 plates at the Richmond. For the first time, rats were allowed to cross the bridge between the two colleges with approval from the Sophomore Class. Guests included W. L. Prince Miss May Keller Miss Hazel Paris Miss Rucker Miss Williams and M. L. Skaggs among others.
In memory of a friend beyond this realm. A friend of Sophomores for years, protection from marauding rats. Sewell notes the parting as 23 sheds tears for thee.
In a tight college basketball clash at the University gym the Spiders defeated Elon College 30 to 28 after a five minute overtime. Both teams played fast clean basketball with no decisive lead in the second half as the score stood 25 to 25 at regulation end.
Walter Hampden, hailed as America's finest actor, spoke to the student bodies of Westhampton and Richmond Colleges at the Westhampton Red Cross Building. He had recently arrived to present three Shakespearean plays and The Servant in the House after touring major cities, marking his first Southern audience. He urged Shakespeare for the masses and the theater’s vital role in society.
Next Monday at 7 15 p m the second preliminary contest will be held in Richmond College Auditorium to pick six debaters for the Trinity College debate on March 5 Five speakers defend the affirmative K E Burke J G Tarrant G D Stevens J H Miller A E Blankingship The negative team includes R L Mann W G Keith D E Wood Warren McNeill and I O Beatty The query is That Labor Should Share in the Management of Corporate Industry The first preliminary to select debaters for a William and Mary debate on April 22 will be held Tuesday night February 15.
The Ministerial Association will hold its annual banquet tonight at 8 in the Richmond College Cafeteria. Plates are priced at one dollar thirty five cents. A lively program with music by the College Orchestra and various performances is planned.
