University of Richmond suspends February Mid Winter dances due to heavy snow. First dance February 9 from 9:00 to 1:00 features Wally Stoeffer and his band. Tea dance February 17 from 4:00 to 6:00 informal for men and dates, evening formal for girls.
The Senate adopted the Student Government appropriation bill with no substantive changes. No grants were cut. additional funds went to the Camera Club and the University Chair with matching funds required from Westhampton College Government. The Richmond College Rowing Club request was denied.
The Dean's Office plans to mail first semester grades to students' parents tomorrow after snow delays postponed exams to Monday and Tuesday.
President F W Boatwright announced the Social Center Building drive aims for fall 1942 completion. About 15000 of 100000 needed is on hand, with alumni contributions planned to raise the rest via 2330 gifts totaling 92500 pledged in five semi annual installments across groups A to G. Local alumni committees will canvass communities to secure funds.
A three judge court last week voted to annex the University of Richmond into the city limits citing sewage concerns if it remained in Henrico County. Dr Boatwright and local attorneys presented the case with varying judicial opinions among the judges. The decision followed previous plans to keep the property in county jurisdiction.
Dean Raymond B Pinchbeck of Richmond College says no days will be cut or added to spring holidays despite two extra exam days during a sixteen inch snow. Exams set for January 26 27 postponed to next week. spring break begins March 20 with classes resuming March 28. Summer vacation starts June 8.
Dr Leslie H Walton longtime president of Richmond University Board of Publications and active Richmond College alumnus died yesterday afternoon from heart attack while shoveling snow. He served Westhampton Baptist Church and held leadership roles at Fork Union Military Academy and Albemarle District. Funeral at Westhampton Baptist Church with burial in Fork Union, Virginia.
Richmond faced its heaviest snow in four decades on January 23 cutting off all transportation except walking. Exams were halted and mid winter dances postponed while dorm residents faced meals likely handled by the football team. A mass exodus to Westhampton Village followed as officials reassured students the girls were not present for entertainment.
Excellent spirit defined the period as football players trudged through 16 inch snow to reach the hospital for a blood transfusion for Coach Thistlethwaite's wife. Miss Keller and Miss Turnbull appeared in gym suits, delighting students, while Dr McDanes joined in wearing a varsity sweater amid a coal shortage impacting Phi Kaps and Theta Chi on the first snowy day.
Westhampton juniors prepare for the annual Junior Prom in the Activities Building gym transformed into a Valencian vineyard with purple green and silver decor. Margaret Forrer and George Munt will lead the figure with assistants and a full junior committee handling decor flowers refreshments programs and invitations. Billy Brooks has a new nine piece or ten piece orchestra for the card dance inside the gym starting at 9 PM with the opening dances and a traditional Lieberstraum encore.
Dr BF L Fox history professor from Randolph Macon College headlines the vocation day as the featured speaker on campus. This marks his first visit to the campus as a speaker.
