East-West Center Offers 1963 64 Asian Studies Scholarships

The East West Center in Honolulu announces 100 scholarships for graduating seniors pursuing Asian studies and diplomatic careers. Deadline February 1. It also awards 200 Asia Pacific scholarships bringing students to the center for study with full expenses. The program includes field study in Asia and access to 200 courses at the University of Hawaii.

Italian Film To Be Jan 9 Showing by Foreign Film Society

The Foreign Film Society presents the Italian comedy Poor But Beautiful directed by Dino Risk on January 9 with English subtitles. Starring Marisa Allasio and Maurizio Arena, the film follows two boys who pursue a tailor shop worker and two girls as they grow into men, described as optimistic neo realism, shown in the physics building at 9 30.

City To Present Christmas Pageant At Carillon Bell Tower

The thirty fourth Richmond Christmas Pageant will be held December 25 at 6 00 pm at the Carillon Bell Tower. The Richmond Department of Recreation and Parks sponsors the event a cast of over three hundred will present the Christmas Story with carols narration and pantomime. Mallory Freeman will narrate succeeding his uncle Dr Douglas Southall Freeman Mrs Rose Banks long associated with the Virgin Mary directs this year’s pageant. Holy Family cast details remain undisclosed.

Gary Grant and John Garfield star in Destination Tokyo a World War II submarine adventure set to screen at the Student Center. The film follows a submarine entering Tokyo Bay during the war and features a tense naval mission.

Pi Mu Epsilon initiates 23 members at Richmond College

The Virginia Alpha Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon initiated twenty three new members on December 3 at Richmond College. A reception followed at Professor Grable's home for the new members and their majors including math, chem, physics, econ and German.

Music Department Plans Debussy Centennial Event

The Richmond campus Music Department hosts three January programs to honor Debussy’s centennial. January 6 features Dr. Timothy Miller preludes and etudes with a piano duet by Florence Robertson and Hilton Rusty. January 18 hosts a string quartet led by Frederick Neumann, and January 19 the Children’s Corner with Jack Jarrett, Dr. Miller, and Mrs. Jacqueline Renard Francis reading Debussy poems. The Westhampton Glee Club performs Blessed Demareth, with December 18 listed as a concert date.

Phi Gamma Delta Chain Theft Probed After False Hospital Call

Fraternity members J. J. Jepson and John Moreau reported a chain used to honor each member since 1890 stolen from the Phi Gamma Delta lodge between 11 PM and midnight on December 10. A fake police call claimed brother Jerry Klutz was injured and needed visitors, but Klutz was at home. Police are inspecting the incident.

Special Examinations For Richmond And Westhampton Colleges

Special Examinations for Richmond and Westhampton Colleges will be held January 4 with all arrangements due before Christmas. Students who received conditional grades E or I in 1961 62 and have professor approval may take the tests. The BR grade becomes EF unless changed to D within twelve months, and I must be removed within twelve months or be treated as failing.

Debaters Score In Dixie Classics at Wake Forest

Debaters Becker and Smith earned the second negative team trophy in the Dixie Classic Invitational at Wake Forest College December 7 8 representing The University of Richmond with six wins and two losses. They defeated Old Dominion College William and Mary Virginia Georgetown Dartmouth American University and lost to Vermont and Duke. Robertson and Warren posted four wins in eight rounds defeating Saint Josephs Middlebury Holy Cross and Georgetown, and losing to Davidson Old Dominion Wake Forest and Annapolis Military Academy.
