Richmond College Star Newton Ancarrow Killed in Action
Gold Stars Captain Newton R. Ancarrow aged 15 was killed while lomchings hik men into action. He once captained the Richmond College football team and was noted in other branches. Trained at Port Meyer he joined the Eightieth Division with many Richmond and Virginia men in his company. Lieutenant W. F. Whitehead a surgeon died in New York of pneumonia after Hoboken onset as he prepared to embark for France. Dr Whitehead was a Nelson County native and alumnus of Richmond College William and Mary College and the University of Maryland. He had served in the army since last August.
