The Messenger University of Richmond literary magazine debuts with a new format. It includes three short stories, two essays, four poems, and a campus-themed cover by Nancy Madden.
The Richmond College Student Government negotiates with William and Mary College Government to exchange bands for dance weekends to cut costs and diversify entertainment. Richmond reps seek insight into William and Mary House and Senate operations for closer relations, with Bob Bloxom Ken Yeamen Brad Gunter Bob Sullivan Lou Morales and Joe Barker attending December 16 meeting.
The Philologian Society and the Messenger sponsor an essay contest for all students. The winning essay will be published in the Messenger with a prize awarded. Meetings are Mondays at 6 40 in the SAB lounge at Richmond College.
The University Players presented Antigone in December 1958 at the Quonset Hut Theatre Picdmond Virginia. Don Linahan as Creon Gloria Greenfield as Antigone Shirley Satterfield as Ismene Jim Matthews as the Soldier Jehane Flint as The Chorus Master Martin Erb the Page shone in a commendable performance praised for intensity and vitality.
Santa Claus will visit Keller Hall on Wednesday December 17 for the annual University Christmas Party. The event starts at 7 pm with entertainment and refreshments, then groups will go caroling in surrounding neighborhoods. Faculty and families are urged to attend via personal invitations.
Westhampton College hosts an Open House Monday to display room and door decorations across dormitories. Prizes go to top rooms and doors with judges Miss Gloria Walker Dr. Spencer Albright Miss Marjorie Rivenburg and Dr. James Moncure Miss Margaret Ross Miss Pauline Turnbull evaluating North and South Courts.
The R. C. McDanel Historical Society will meet Monday at 7 30 p m in the Faculty Lounge Student Center. The event includes a Christmas party with refreshments and transportation for Westhampton students. Riders should meet at the barrier at 7 15 p.m.
Westhampton College announces the Women’s Glee Club Octet debut in Keller Hall this Sunday under director Ferne Grimmett. Members include Libby Wampler Dale Boatwright Jackie Nance Barbara Ross Jean Zelinsky M J Willet Mary Evans and Pat Testerman piano. They will sing O Holy Night and Jingle Bells with dates for alumnae reception December 4 and Faculty Men’s Club December 15 also on their program.
The University will host Religious Focus Week February 9 to 13 with a Baptist Student Union team from Nashville. The program includes participants from other faiths and seeks student volunteers for committees Friday and Saturday locations.
Westhampton hosts its annual Snow Ball on December 13 in Keller Hall gymnasium. The Continentals provide music from 9 p.m. to midnight for couples at $2.50. Ladies wear formals and gentlemen tuxedos.
Hundreds of alumnae and faculty children will attend the annual alumnae children s party Sunday in Keller Hall. The program from 3 to 5 p.m. will feature a puppet show Christmas carols Santa Claus and refreshments in the Tea Room after the entertainment.
The 14th annual News Pictures of the Year exhibit, co sponsored by the NPPA and Encyclopaedia Britannica, is on display at the University of Richmond Library from December 9 to 20. It showcases top prize winners and finalists, with prints from leading photographers and a tour to 150 cities reaching over 2 million viewers.
The Egg and I comedy screens in the Student Center Friday at 7 30 p m featuring Claudette Colbert Fred MacMurray Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride. The film follows a city couple who buy a mountain ranch to raise chickens and learn an egg tender life is not all it cracks up to be. Refreshments follow the 108 minute movie.
