Gabriel presides as rush week ends with fraternities pitching merits to freshmen. Pledging becomes official during date week amid months of parties and calls. Analysts warn one week cannot judge candidates. next year may bring different outcomes and varying pledge numbers.
The Christian Faith and Heritage Commission of the YMGA plans a special Christmas program during the regular mass meeting next Thursday night December 11 at 8 oclock in the Student Center lounge. All men are invited regardless of membership.
The Interfraternity Council announces its annual Christmas party for underprivileged children set for Saturday afternoon December 13 in Millhiser Gym. Bob Parsons urges each fraternity man to bring a gift costing 50 cents to 1 dollar by December 10 to Thomas Hall Phi Alpha room.
The Westhampton College Athletic Association presents its annual Snow Ball on Saturday December 13 from 9 PM to midnight in Keller Hall. Tickets cost 1.75. Theme is Winter Fantasy with decorations and Mark Troxell's orchestra providing music. Chaperones include Miss Crenshaw and Mr. and Mrs. Wessells.
Richmond halfback Ed Elliott and linebacker John Garlick named to the Associated Press All Big Six Defensive Team for the 1952 season. Tackle Bill Thacker also earned second string defensive honors and Bob Sgro received honorable mention at guard. Elliott and Garlick praised for speed, awareness, and hard hitting. Thacker noted for drive and tackling power.
The French Club held its first meeting after reorganization electing Charlie Wiltshire as president John Wooldridge as vice president and Ley Henderson as secretary treasurer The group planned a brief program and a Christmas themed joint meeting with the Westhampton group on Monday December 8 Dr Gaines praised the members enthusiasm for a bright future.
Richmond College House of Representatives moves quickly with two meetings in ten days. Speaker Bob Alley assigns assistant secretary and clerk, sergeant at arms, and chairs for the Rules Credentials and Judiciary committees. A resolution on attendance card procedures passes. another on student shop hours faces future action. Next meeting set for December 16.
Sixty five churches join in a program to provide University of Richmond ministerial students with clinical ministry training. The plan, sponsored by the University ministerial association and Richmond Minister's Conference, places students with pastors for hospital calls funerals weddings and church activities to build fellowship and tailor study for seminary work.
Seven University of Richmond students represent the Cameoran Messenger and Web at the Virginia Intercollegiate Press Association convention opening at VPI. Web delegates Hammock Payne Moore Kennedy LeSueur join VIPA events. Globe banquet features Wampler Spearman and NC Journalism School official. awards awarded for best Virginia newspaper and magazine excellence. Fall 1952 Web won yearbook design trophy.
Messenger staff members will meet in the Messenger office at the Student Center on Monday December 8 at 12 55 PM.
The IFC voted unanimously to admit Upsilon Rho as the twelfth member of the group. Upsilon Rho is a campus based local fraternity established this year. The IFC runs a toy seal drive and plans Help Week with Tom Pollard as pledge captain.
Umeko Kagawa daughter of Dr. Toyohiko Kagawa will speak at the St. Giles Presbyterian Church student forum Sunday December 7 at 6 p.m. She studies at the Presbyterian Training School in Richmond and previously attended a middle girls school and Kwansei Gakuin University Kobe where she led the University YWCA, worked in Kobe slums, and ran a girls club.
