Army plans draft reform to return students to college
Senator Byrd informed President Boatwright that the War Department is weighing drafting college students and sending many back to school as army privates for streamlined courses in pre medical training physics chemistry math and possibly history. Selection would use aptitude tests to pick one third to one half of draftees for nine to twenty seven months of college work while remaining service members may be steered toward officer potential. Dr Boatwright notes no official statement exists but expects news before Christmas and stresses many qualified men lack funds for education could benefit from the plan.
