The Westhampton Varsity defeated the Alumnae 2 to 0 in the annual Thanksgiving hockey match on the field. Hoover and Sessoms starred for Varsity while Kitty Vaughn, Shumate, and Hancock shone for the Alumnae as fans praised the revived tradition and the game’s fast, spirited play.
Westhampton's B Y P U held its fourth meeting last Sunday with officers on the platform. Ada Arthur Eva Sanders and Ruth Powell presented the topic John G Paton Missionary to the New Hebrides in three parts The Man With White Hair The Wonderful Well and The Brides Trosseau Glenna James summarized Patons characteristics and application Bible Readers Quiz showed higher participation than earlier meetings. The singing was good and the atmosphere was lively and friendly.
Next Tuesday night the Dramatic Clubs of Richmond and Westhampton Colleges begin their season with The Private Secretary a three act farce by Charles Hawtrey. Rehearsals under Miss Faris have gone smoothly and observers call it the funniest comedy yet seen by the clubs. The action unfolds in England two young men visit a country manor one posing as a private secretary complications arise with the real secretary and the plot ends with two couples living happily ever after.
The State Association of Teachers held its Richmond Thanksgiving gathering with a Richmond College Alumni dinner. Forty four alumni attended to hear news of Alma Mater and renew ties. toastmaster D N Davidson led remarks alongside Dean Gaines and other educators from Richmond, Stuart and Stuart area schools.
Westhampton College hosted visiting alumnae and the Varsity hockey team in the Red Cross Building after the Thanksgiving Day game. A buffet luncheon warmed guests around a log fire as Ruth Hoover welcomed the old girls back to campus and memories of last year’s Athletic Association speech sparked a proposal that she respond for the alumnae.
Students enjoyed a quiet Thanksgiving with campus vacation activity. Helen Hancock led an Alumnae hockey team against the Westhampton squad in a 2 to 0 defeat. Fork Union Military Academy and Benedictine All Stars played football at Stadium Field. Benedictine lost 30 to 7 to the University of Richmond in a competitive contest.
The honorary fraternity Chi Eta Upsilon held its first meeting of the year at a Richmond Hotel banquet honoring new members R F Caverlee C F Leek and W E Jones. Coach Dobson and Professor Handy led a round table discussion of university topics with many members present and several absent.
