Freshmen Rush Yields Fewer Fraternity Bids This Year

Fraternity rushing ends with 105 pledges after 13 chapters offered bids. Dean of Students list trims eligible freshmen and others, reducing overall bids from 218 last year to about 115 extended, with 105 accepted. Phi Gamma Delta and Sigma Phi Epsilon tie for pledging honors with 18 each.

Westhampton Juniors Win Intramural Debate Tourney

Betty Lou Warren and Mary Elizabeth Hix led Westhampton juniors to a 5-0 undefeated run and top affirmative title. Irvin Acree and Lester Duty of Richmond College finished second on the independent team with a 4-1 record, while Pi Kappa Alpha led the negative fraternity with a 2-3 mark. The top speakers included Acree with a 4.00 rating, followed by Ken Anderson, Bill Phillips, Dick Brown, and Ed Felton.

German Club Plans Tea Songs Story

Die Lustige Gesellschaft will hear Jeanette Branin in a recital of German songs at the Christmas meeting Wednesday at 7 15 p m in the Margaret James Room Keller Hall Group singing of German Christmas songs and carols as well as the reading of the Christmas story from the German Bible will also be featured Professor N W Skinner says spiced tea and German Christmas cookies will be served after the program

Registrar Sets Date For Special Examinations

Special examinations on the second semester 1954-55 and Summer Session 1955 will be given Friday January 6 at 2 30 p m. This is the last time 1954-55 may be taken. Students must file applications in the Registrar's office and pay a 2 00 special examination fee in the Treasurer's office before Christmas vacation. Exams are for students with conditional passing grades.

Nancy Day tapped into Tau Kappa Alpha for debate skill

Nancy Day a Westhampton College junior was tapped into the forensics honorary Tau Kappa Alpha in a Westhampton College assembly. Dr Spencer Albright praised her team spirit forensics service and campus cooperation. Her achievements include three years on the varsity debate team the first affirmative at the State Fall TKA tournament 1953 and a winning Marshall Wythe team at William and Mary 1955.

PDE Photo Contest Closes December 16

The PDE photo contest hosted by Pi Delta Epsilon invites University students to submit campus life scenes. Entries accepted through Friday December 16 at the Cotincian office or with PDE members. Prizes award $10, $5, and $2.50 with winners in the January COLLEGIAN.

Philologian Revises Constitution on Cuts

The Philologian Literary Society debated if a member may hold office after overcutting meetings. Ellis West defended himself claiming unint entional absences. A motion to revise the constitution passed to study revisions and read the document at the next meeting.

Erb and White Recital Set for Sunday at Keller Hall

The Department of Music presents a faculty recital Sunday December 4 at four o clock in Keller Hall with tenor James Erb and pianist John White. Westhampton seniors present a Keller Hall gym program titled What It Was Was Basket ball claiming to unveil basketball history through primary sources from graveyards ships and haunted houses.
