Jean Burroughs Chosen Chairman of 755 Orientation

Jean Burroughs is named chairman of the 1955 Westhampton Orientation Committee. She previously led North Court and served in College Government, with Mortar Board membership. Twenty two counselors from next year’s juniors and seniors were appointed to roles across dormitory and town student groups.

Westhampton May Day theme La Belle Mer and Moby Dick

Westhampton marks May Day on Saturday May 7 with a 2:30 p.m. carnival on the green featuring Moby Dick characters. Queen Ethel Smith will be crowned at 4:50 p.m. with King Neptune as master of ceremonies.

Pre-law Students to Be Entertained at Richmond

University of Richmond pre law students and all college community members are urged to attend an April 25 8 pm program in the Law School Building. Dean Muse Professor J Westwood Smithers and Professor Barnett will give a 45 minute intro to law school followed by law school tours. Refreshments will be served in the first floor lounge. Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity hosts.

Allred Chosen Proxy for University Religious Activities Council

John Allred, a Richmond College junior ace, was elected president of the University Religious Activities Council. He succeeds Wilbur Kersey with Bridget Zickmantel as vice president and a slate of officers including Joan Gay Levy as secretary and Howard Cohen as treasurer. Zickmantel, of Caracas, Venezuela, presides over several campus groups including the Westminster and German clubs.

Dr Wilkinson to Lecture on Neutron Diffraction

Dr M K Wilkinson of Oak Ridge National Laboratory will give a general talk at University of Richmond Hall physics lecture room at 8 00 pm on April 27. The discussion covers neutron diffraction principles techniques and applications including locating hydrogen in crystals and determining molecular and magnetic structures.

Science Academy Sponsors Day For High Schools

Junior Science Day sponsored by the Virginia Academy of Science and the University of Richmond will be held Saturday April 25 from 4 00 pm to 2 00 pm. About 250 high school students and teachers from the region will attend with exhibits entering the Junior Academy Exhibits Contest. Winners receive cash prizes and qualify for May finals at Madison College with the Virginia Academy of Science meeting. Demonstrations and displays in biology chemistry physics and psychology by university students and faculty. Lectures by Dr Trout and Dr Alley. Honorary fraternities Beta Beta Beta Sigma Pi Sigma Gamma Sigma Epsilon and Psi Ghi are active. Program directed by Professor B E A Grable.
