The Richmond College Planning Commission reports six student fund recipients show only one with satisfactory books. Records are often brief or outdated, and no standardized system exists. The commission will address probation concerns with the Southern Association and surveys student opinions on a proposed social center.
Carlton Whitlatch is named to the Richmond College Honor Council to replace Walter Gillette who resigned after election to the student senate. Whitlatch, a junior and president of the University Players, directs the Radio Guild and serves as Junior class secretary.
George R. Beach Jr of DuPont will address the Economics Club on employment and personnel work in large industries. A talking motion picture by DuPont’s cellophane division will be shown. The event is open to all students with plans for another corporate speaker later in the semester.
Miss Virginia Shuman of Alexandria was chosen May Queen at Westhampton College for the May Day celebration on May 6. Agnes Deaton of Arlington was named Maid of Honor, chosen from six seniors by the student body.
Richmond College plans a large campus carnival in Millhiser gym on April 22 organized by ODK to fund the Student Activities Building. Frank Cosby manages the event with acts from Theta Chi and the Skronteh Society, plus exhibits and side shows from many campus groups. Admission is ten cents for the main carnival with small fees for booths. profits go to theStudent Activities Fund.
The Alumni Society of the University of Richmond announces a ten meeting tour starting in Bowling Green on Friday April 21 with Rev. L M Ritter presiding. President Boatwright and W B F Cole will speak. Subsequent meetings will be in Winchester Madison and Roanoke with A B Honts and other local leaders presiding.
Tau Kappa Alpha sponsors a student program at Richmond and Westhampton chapters to address Convocation concerns. Ben McClure will introduce, Martha Elliott presides, and Ann Scott Campbell Jacqueline Faulkner outline objections while John EB Jordan discusses faculty views. Royall Brandis proposes ways to improve weekly gatherings.
Westhampton girls and non fraternity men are invited to the Interfraternity Sing tomorrow at 3 30 in the Greek Theatre. Admission is free. Each fraternity will sing as a group and a smaller group will perform a selection. Judging based on harmony stage presence appropriateness and overall effect. The winner receives a fraternity banner. It aims to be an annual campus event.
