After approving plans for the Southern Collegiate Newspapers conference on April 22 and 23, the Collegian staff met April 5 to assign committee roles. Student and Collegian members will staff sleeping quarters, tours autos, a tour director, a registration bureau, dormitory supervisors, banquet oversight, and an information bureau.
The campus calendar lists events from April 8 to April 14 including a concert by visiting artists at the Red Cross, sports at Ashland, and multiple services and meetings. Notable items include John Stewart Bryan's sermon at 7 p.m. and gatherings for Literary Societies, Richmond College staff, Scrubs ve John Marshall at Stadium Field, and YMCA and YWCA programs in the evenings.
The Class of 1924 marked its birthday on April 1 at Westhampton with a Freshmen party held at the Red Cross Building renamed the Sign of the Black Cat. The event featured black and white waiters and Rat members in blue artist smocks and tama with white bloomers as part of the village cabaret theme.
Construction of the Roger Millhiser Memorial Gym on Stadium Field advances toward completion with February groundbreaking. The 7000 square foot facility includes two basketball courts, locker and trophy rooms, showers, and planned swimming wing. Total cost is $200000 with fire-proof English Gothic design expected to enhance campus by next college year.
An unusual treat awaits music lovers in Spiderdom as Mary Carlisle Howe and Anne Hull perform tonight. Howe, a composer and pianist, and Hull will present a concert at the Red Cross Building starting at 8 o'clock.
Dr John Holland Rose a Cambridge naval historian and author will lecture in Richmond College Chapel on April 18 19 20 as part of the annual Thomas lectures under the University.
Ashland hosts an intercollegiate baseball duel as Dobson leads the Spiders against Randolph-Macon in a spring clash. Randolph Macon seeks to rebound after two losses this season to William and Mary and Virginia, aiming to avenge a 7 to 2 1920 Ashland defeat.
The University of Richmond out-hit Virginia two to one but lost 3 to 1 in Charlottesville. A lucky home run drive provided the margin as Charlotte ville players gave the home crowd hope for Spiderdom.
