Memorial Day Service Honors Veterans at Restland Field
Veterans, families, and two former POWs gathered at Restland for the 38th Memorial Day ceremony. Col. Samuel R. Johnson of Plano and Lt. Col. Warren Robert Lilly addressed the crowd as Navy jets roared overhead and taps echoed. The Berkner High School Band performed patriotic selections while wreaths were laid on the Victory Memorial.

University of Texas at Dallas announced May 28 that three faculty members received one year Welch Foundation grants totaling varying amounts. Doald Rapp will study charge transfer between ions and molecules with $16 036. Donald M. Gray continues oligonucleotide circular dichroism with $12 239. Garland HUD Housing Project Sells 13 Rehabilitated Homes
Thirteen rehabilitated homes have been sold in the Happy Homes target area in Garland since the joint Garland HUD project opened May 4. Senate passes local legislation in Texas
The Texas Senate approved three local bills on the uncon tested calendar. HB 1111 by Rep. Bill Hilliard would let Grapevine issue revenue bonds for a golf course and tennis facilities, lowering city size requirements and broadening builds. HB 1467 by Rep. Gib Lewis makes the civil agency in whose territory firefighting occurs liable under inter local coop acts. HCR 44 by Rep. Gib Lewis and Sen. Meier asks Congress to lower the Social Security earnings age from 72 to 65. Several bills failed due to objections, including SB 655 and HB 1193 among others stalled on the calendar.

Giant Oscar fish Osky charms Dallas family and cat
Osky, a giant Oscar fish owned by Mr. and Mrs. James B. Hohenstein and their daughter Lisa, is about three years old and the largest Oscar in Dallas. The fish eats minnows, pellets, and crickets, leaps from the water for treats, and even kisses the glass tank. Lisa, six, hand-feeds him, while a Siamese cat named Kink watches.

Richardson Police Probe Holiday Weekend Burglaries

Young artist Dan Weed wins calendar art prize
Dan Weed a sixth grader at Arapaho Elementary in Richardson received a fifty dollar award from Equitable Life Assurance Society after his painting Sunday Morning in a Texas Mission was chosen for the companys 1974 My Community in the Early 1770s calendar. The school also gets art materials for next years program.
