Jaycee-Ettes Win State Honors at Corpus Christi Meet
At the Texas Jaycees state convention in Corpus Christi last weekend, Jaycee-Ettes and Jaycees earned top chapter honors within their population divisions. Jaycee officers Frank Ziebell president Bob McLendon vice president and Al Lewis treasurer were named outstanding officers. Ziebell became director of the Texas Jaycees. Phil Matthews received an award.

Bay City drug raid nets four held in Matagorda County
Bay City authorities report a U S Customs alert led to the arrest of four men and seizure of a light plane at the Bay City municipal airport. Two ounces of marijuana two grams of hash and twenty thousand five hundred dollars in cash were found when deputies searched the plane as the men were refueling. Suspects include White Roscoe F. White Jr 25 of Richardson James Galletta 27 Richard Jennings 30 and John Peter Scutti 25 with Scutti homeless and others Dallas residents. A hold was placed on the airplane under state narcotic statute as legal moves proceed.

Glider Teen Sets State Distance Record in Texas Flight
Nels Johnson, a Richardson High School junior, soared from Marfa to Grapevine in a 443 to 450 mile glider distance record, claiming a national mark for under 21. He averaged 75 mph with a 25 mph tailwind, flying for over six hours with temperatures dropping and clouds forming. His father, Dick Johnson, a 30 year pilot, joined aboard as they chase thermals and the thrill of silent flight over Texas skies.
