Water district best deal for cities since 1951 founded
The North Texas Municipal Water District formed in 1951 to let ten member cities share surface water from Lavon Reservoir and funded pipes and pumping stations. Executive director Carl W. Riehn notes a 27 percent drop in production cost per thousand gallons since formation, with current total cost to members and nonmembers at about 3 cents per thousand gallons. Dallas charges 30 cents per thousand, with debt service and capital investment taking two thirds of the 23 cents. Memorial Day observances at Restland honor veterans with Field of Honor and Avenue of Flags, plus special seating for Gold Star Mothers and POW families. Col. Collins Sued for Sex Bias by EEOC in Dallas Federal Court
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a sex discrimination suit Tuesday against Collins Radio in Dallas Federal Court. The EEOC alleges Collins discriminates against women in hiring promotion sick leave and layoffs and against blacks in testing and layoffs. Collins spokesman says the firm has an affirmative action program and denies discrimination.

Merit winner studies abroad at Rice University
Wesley N. Harris, son of Mr and Mrs William D Harris of 806 Clearwater, named a Colin Merit Scholar at Rice University. He joins 3,200 nationwide finalists, attends American School in Switzerland, will diploma in June, scholarship between 250 and 1500 annually. Harris is active in National Honor Society Eagle Band Richardson High School Key Club Science Club and holds leadership roles in Math Club and Hi. He swims and plays rugby and was chosen from Merit finalists for the Rice program.
