Richardson police award banquet honors Officer of the Year
Detective Joe Long named Officer of the Year by the Richardson Jaycees at the Richardson Police Association Awards Banquet held at Richardson High School. Runner up Keith Corbin joined the APD in 1970 after prior Police Reserve service. Other honors went to the Communications Division, Mike Welborn for radar citations, Tommy Shuptrene for humanitarian rescue, and community involved officers Rice and Ayers.

Injunction Hearing Date Postponed in Plano
A hearing on an injunction to prevent the Richardson Daily News from being circulated in Plano has been postponed to Monday. It was set for Friday in U S District Judge William M Taylor's Dallas court. The suit is by Communications Publishers Inc publisher of the Plano Daily Post. Earlier, a restraining order request by the firm was denied by Judge Taylor.

Two North Texas civic and church leaders will receive honorary degrees at Dallas Baptist College's 3 p.m. Sunday commencement. Charles Vanderslice, pastor of Richardson Heights Baptist Church, will get a Doctor of Divinity and deliver the commencement address. Travis T. Wallace, chair of Great American Reserve Insurance Co. trustees, will receive a Doctor of Laws. Vanderslice led Richardson Heights for 17 years and is active in denominal service. Wallace is vice chairman of the Dallas Community Chest Trust Fund and a city bank and business board member.
