Miss Richardson Pageant returns tonight at 8 in Greenville Ave Auditorium with Miss Carolyn Deuback handing the crown to the new winner. Final entrants include Phyllis Bear Yvonne Bryson Donna Gartrell Nannette Hasty Donna Miller Francis Potts Judy Weesner Pamela Wells and more. The show features a $100 scholarship from Wade's Career College plus gifts from local merchants and a master of ceremonies Allen Case. A student and adult ticket price exists at the door.

Water Usage Jump in Richardson After April Rain
Richardson residents used 96,953,000 gallons of water in April, an uptick from last year, by 8,787 customers shaping an estimated city population of 33,391. April saw 72 new meters installed. daily highs reached 3,923,000 gallons on April 12 and 2,367,000 on April 2. Sewage pumped totaled 110,700,000 gallons.

Driver Killed When Truck Hits Train At Campbell Crossing
Police identify the victim as 46 year old Melvin Horace Thornton of Garland. A westbound pickup on Campbell Road collided with an H and T C freight train in dense morning mist. The impact pushed the truck 62 feet. Thornton died instantly. Engineer J H Lovell and Fireman L J Johnson of Ennis cited poor visibility. Thornton's body was removed to a Dallas hospital by Richardson Fire Department.

Balloon Lift Aims To Probe Cosmic Rays From Canada To Georgia
Richardson Center Experiment GRC plans a 400 foot balloon lift from Fort Churchill Canada carrying a high sensitivity cosmic ray detector. The 18 cubic foot package will rise to 125000 feet where atmospheric pressure is four thousandths of earths, expanding the envelope. Data will cover three minutes of low energy cosmic rays up to 600 MeV and classify electrons protons and alpha particles. Reports go to NASA under a grant for flights at Palestine Texas and Fort Churchill.
