Walkers Hit the Road for Plano March of Dimes Walkathon
About 600 participants started the 20 mile March of Dimes Walkathon at Plano High School with a pep rally led by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach. The Plano chapter and Key Club sponsored the event to raise funds per mile, with prizes from O'Quinn's Appliance Gibson's Department Store and Thunderbird Roller Rink. Army personnel supported water distribution, and several civic leaders and school principals took part, finishing despite heat with stories of sunburned noses and endurance.

Dentist T M McDougal said someone entered his office at 300 S Cottonwood and stole pills and currency valued at 37 dollars. Nancy Sprankle reported an apartment entry through an unlocked window with a portable TV cassette recorder stereo and three albums worth 685. Linda Campbell said a gold diamond ring worth 100 was taken from her home. Paul York reported a baseball thrown through his front plate glass window causing 65 dollars damage.
