Richardson City Council previews a routine meeting at City Hall with a public hearing on Renner Road paving equity and a zoning change for land east of Central Expressway near Spring Valley Road slated for Red Lobster Inn. Other items include bids for a tennis center, houses, a fairway mower, and landfill work, plus a proposed highway signal project and plan commission recommendations.
The Texas Organized Crime Prevention Council launches a public education program on organized crime. Co chaired by Attorney General John Hill and DPS Director Wilson E Speir, the council targets gambling narcotics auto theft prostitution loan sharking credit card fraud and business infiltration. The effort seeks new laws and state enforcement cooperation with media awareness to combat organized crime in Texas.
A 23-year-old Richardson resident Andrew T Porter II of 919 Blue Lake Circle was killed in a one car crash on Greenville Ave when he lost control and hit a bridge support. He died at Presbyterian Hospital after surgery. Police also investigated three burglaries and two break in incidents over the weekend including a stolen television at Cumberland House Apartments a window break in at Keith Burda Texaco Service Station cash and wallet thefts and a battery theft from a car at church footage suggests routine weekend crime activity.
Richardson parks department sponsors an area wide art festival at Cottonwood Park Belt Line Road on Saturday March 31. About 150 artists will exhibit oils watercolors pastels pen and ink metal sculpture wood carving dried flower arrangements batiks tole painting and more. Prices will be competitive. The event has grown from a casual sidewalk show to a park filled with artists.
Nearly one million copies of the new Dallas telephone directory are being distributed and should be completed by April 3, according to Wallace Brunworth, division manager for South.
Cindy Moore a Richardson High School student won a certificate of honorable mention at the Fourteenth Annual High School Art Competition sponsored by the University of Dallas art department. The ceremony happened in the Haggerty Art Center with 15 awards chosen from 300 entries from 21 area high schools. The exhibit runs on the UC Irving campus through March 25.
Francis Patrick O Connor 58 of 724 Nottingham Lane a self employed real estate salesman and former Sewell Village Cadillac Co. Dallas worker died Sunday after a sudden illness. He lived in Overland Park Kansas before moving to Richardson ten years ago. He led the Richardson Association for Retarded Children and was past president of the St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church Men s Club. He served on the Parish Advisory Council and belonged to Knights of Columbus Council 6065. A WWII Army veteran, rosary is 7 30 p m Monday at Restland Memorial Funeral Chapel. Requiem Mass 10 a m Tuesday at Church. Burial in Restland Memorial Park. Survived by wife Doris, sons Paul Richard and Roger, daughter Marie all of Richardson. brothers Ralph and Paul of Nebraska. sister Mrs Helen Olswald of Arlington Va. The Richardson forecast calls for fair, mild conditions tonight and Tuesday. The low tonight should be about 50 degrees with a high around 72 degrees on Tuesday and northerly winds near 10 to 20 mph.
Dr. Frank Ray Allum a Melbourne native and physicist will speak on Australia in UTD's Insight community service lecture series at Founders North Auditorium. The program includes film from the Australian consulate in San Francisco and begins at 7:30 p.m.

Dr C L Lundell of the University of Texas at Dallas is named Award of Merit by the Southern Memorial Association for outstanding city service. Presentation at the association's Wednesday meeting. Lundell has led the Texas Research Foundation for 25 years and joined UTD in 1972 after TRF dissolved and deeded 275 acres to UTD, expanding campus to 608 acres in Richardson and Renner.
