Richardson residents began registering Thursday under the Conditional Voter Registration law as a second chance to qualify for 1966 elections. Registrations occur at Central Station on E Main, No 2 Station on Waterview, and the sub county courthouse 1411 West Belt Line Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. weekdays and noon Saturday until March 17. The law, enacted in a special session, stays in effect if the poll tax is outlawed or if a constitutional amendment passes. Key points include eligibility, mail registration, and exemptions for seniors, with registrants receiving a regular poll tax receipt stamped conditional voter registration certificate.
Eaglette workshops for girls aiming for next year’s drill team started Saturday led by sponsor Mrs. Patsy Owens. A workshop is scheduled for next Saturday March 12 from 8 am to noon at Richardson High School gym with tryouts set for March 26 at 8 am. Eligible RHS girls are in grades 9 through 11 with minimum academic average 80 and citizenship average 88.
A young man was arrested and charged by the Richardson Fire Department with violating the city fire code by exploding large fireworks tied to a street barricade in the 1200 block of Larkspur. The case, to be heard as a misdemeanor in Judge R L Stanfield's Corporation Court March 16, followed police questioning of two others released without charges.
Dr Phyllis Rindler wife of Professor Wolfgang Rindler of the Graduate Research Center of the Southwest died early Thursday in a Houston hospital after a long illness. She taught English at Southern Methodist University. SMU flew flags at half staff in her memory. She earned a PhD from Yale. The Rindler residence is 5012 Les Chateaux Dallas. Funeral arrangements are pending. Her husband is her only survivor.
The Graduate Research Center marks its fifth anniversary with events March 16 to 20 in Dallas and on its Richardson campus. A Founders Building board meeting precedes a Statler Hilton appreciation dinner for Dr. Lloyd Berkner. A regional development symposium features Gifford K. Johnson and leaders from SMU, TCU, and Rice. Local officials and educators highlight TAGER and regional cooperation in education.
Richardson Chamber beautification chair Ruth Young announces a April 23 to 30 Clean-Up week parade with a soap suds street feature by the Fire Department. Little Miss Sparkle will reign as parade queen in a contest by the Altrusa Club, ages nine to ten. A service station clean-up contest pays a monthly banner prize judged with Newcomers Club and Fire Department. Arbor Day trees sold by JCA groups.
California Agriculture Director Charles Paul urged Republican candidate George Christopher to stop saying Paul is not in Gov Brown's cabinet. Paul has attended cabinet meetings for four years, and he quipped that his wife now looks at him with suspicion when he leaves for a cabinet meeting.
Texas Instruments Inc reports 1965 revenue of 436.37 million up 33 percent and earnings of 24.84 million up 37 percent. Earnings per share reach 4.92, a 36 year high, with 44 million spent on plant and equipment and 70 million projected for 1966. Year end backlog hits 218 million, up 47 percent.
Funeral services are held today at 2 pm for Granville Wayne Bryan 25 of 101 So Bowser Farmers Branch who died in a one car crash early Friday on U S Highway 77 near Walwood Parkway Farmers Branch. Interment at Knights of Honor Cemetery Blossom. Survivors include parents three brothers and three sisters.
