An early morning blaze at Collins Radio on Alma Road caused about 100000 in damage. Fire Marshal M L Todd said a fiberglass acid vat with an electric heater ignited the lining and vent system, mainly damaging the vent and duct. No injuries. sprinkler system activated but located below the fire.
Civil Service hearings continue for former Richardson Police Detectives Jim Wilson and Gary Taylor after misconduct allegations. Appeals before the Civil Service Commission will review termination decisions, with Wilson's hearing at 10 a.m. and Taylor's at 7:30 p.m., open if requested. The panel includes Carl McClellan and councilmen Tom Hardy and Howard Hern.
The Richardson ISD planetarium hosts summer and regular programs linking astronomy to literature and history. Eloise Koonce coordinates multi-program shows with student audiences, explaining Elizabethan views of the cosmos and Shakespearean references while managing research, slides, and projections for up to 200 students daily.
University of Texas at Dallas physics professor Dr. John H. Hoffman is among 39 scientists chosen to provide experiments for two NASA Venus spacecraft. His 20 pound Neutral Particle Mass Spectrometer will study Venus lower atmosphere, built at UTC for about 2.5 to 3 million dollars under a NASA Ames contract, with launch planned for mid-1978 and Venus arrival in December 1978.
The Preservation of Historical Sites and Buildings Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. in City Hall to discuss sites for possible preservation. Created this spring by the Richardson City Council, the committee seeks guidelines to determine which buildings deserve saving for Richardson's bicentennial commemoration. Chairman Paul Putty urges Richardson residents to attend, noting the challenge of identifying historical significance.

Irving officials await a Supreme Court ruling on whether cities may enforce ordinances banning massage services for men at commercial parlors. The city, with seven parlors in Greenview Hills, has its measure tied up by a stay pending appeal with the Fifth Circuit in New Orleans, said City Attorney Don Rorschach.
Robert C. Scoggins Jr a Richardson businessman will be ordained in Dallas Saturday June 29 at Sacred Heart Cathedral by Bishop Thomas Tschoepe at 11 a.m. He joins the first North Texas class to become permanent deacons after two years of training. Scoggins will remain in sales management for Total Insurance Planning Services but devote spare time to ministry focusing on service to the aged infirm prisoners and minority groups. He and his wife Trula have three children and he is active in St Mark the Evangelist Parish.
Richardson police received two reports of attempted personal crisis on Wednesday and Thursday, both deemed unfounded. One neighbor despondent claim and a Dallas case of suicide attempt in the 100 block of West Spring Valley were investigated. An interview at Richardson General Hospital found the "victim" had dropped a box of knives and cut her arm. Also reported several vehicle thefts including theft of clothing and a guitar worth $340 from a car on the 200 block of South Plano Road.
