Rockers Near Halfway Mark in Richardson Fair Marathon
After more than 40 hours of continuous rocking, 15 to 20 contestants remain in the Richardson Jaycee Community Fair Marathon Rocking Chair Contest. Last year’s winner Ray Else, who rocked for over 84 hours to defeat Rick Barton by two minutes, credits yoga for stamina. Contenders provide their own chairs and a board to rock on with seven minutes rest every two hours. First prize is 250 dollars, second 150, third 100. The 84 hour record is expected to be broken Saturday afternoon, possibly extending into Saturday night as the event continues. Midway rides, a Marvel McFay AstroWorld act, and a classic auto show highlight the fair Saturday with 122 child entrants in the Little Miss pageant.

City authorizes emergency purchase of three sanitation trucks
Council acted swiftly on an emergency item and authorized City Manager Bob Hughey to negotiate a contract with a Fort Worth firm for immediate delivery of three sanitation trucks. Assistant City Manager Mike Eastland said bids exceed production capacity and six to 12 months could pass before new trucks arrive, risking health hazards if trucks remain down. The city currently has 16 or 17 trucks, with three out of service, and the bid price was 7602 dollars for the trio.
