Richardson Building Department issued 16 residential permits and three commercial permits totaling 383,132 for a week ending June 2. Greenbelt Independent, Inc. won a 59,000 service station permit. Dal-Mac Construction and R. S. Leighton secured other commercial jobs. Residential homes ranged from 12,888 to 24,740 and spread across multiple developments.

Richardson Fire Official Attends SMU Conference
Oliver W. Swor Jr, Deputy Chief of the Richardson Fire Department, attended the third annual National Fire Department Management School at Southern Methodist University in Dallas. The two week program drew fire chiefs from 17 states and Canada and featured leaders in fire management, training, human relations, and administration. Dr. R. L. Tuve of the Naval Research Laboratory spoke on new trends in fire research. Certificates were awarded at the closing session.

Portrait Of Berkner Presented To SCAS
A color portrait of the late Dr. Lloyd Berkner, founding president of the Southwest Center for Advanced Studies, was donated by Fred Conger of Richardson and will hang in the Founders Building reading room. The Lloyd Berkner Memorial Library has the center’s library facilities. Dr. Berkner died June 4 in Washington DC after a cardiac arrest while at a National Academy of Sciences meeting.

Pamela Ann Johnson and Marsha Lee Carson are among 10 finalists for Miss Richardson 1987. The winner will represent Richardson in the Miss Texas Pageant in Fort Worth in July, with a $250 scholarship and local gifts. Johnson, a 1967 Richardson High School grad, plans clerical study at FE Center JC. Carson, also a 1967 grad, is president of the Richardson High Girls Club and pursues a career in fashion design at Tyler JC.
