Texas adopts sweeping revamp of driver licensing rules

Gov. Connally signed a broad overhaul of Texas driver licensing effective Sept 1. New ages require 16 with education 18 without. 15 for certain permits. chaufFeur and commercial licenses rise to 17 with education 18 without. All licenses issued after Sept 1 to under 21 are provisional, revocable after hearings for two offenses in a year. color photos, four year terms, and $6 fees begin Jan 1 with licenses expiring on birth dates.

Enrollment growth eyed by Richardson ISD for 1967-68

Richardson Independent School District projects 23 642 students for the 1967 68 term up from 21 370 last year. Elementary enrollment is 13 796 with 9 384 in secondary and 150 in special education. Locations include Arapaho Canyon Creek Dover Greenwood Hills and more.

RISD to raise property assessments for air conditioning upgrades

The Board of Trustees of the School District to raise the assessment rate from about 60 to 76.5 percent of market value while keeping the current tax rate of $1.20 per $100. The bond issue of $3,250,000 passed by 369 votes to fund air conditioning in 23 schools, with full implementation planned by September 1969.

Fire Department Prepares For 200 Saturday Visitors

About 200 county firemen are expected at a all day Firemen and Fire Marshals Training School hosted by Richardson on Saturday. Seven sessions will cover operations first aid extinguishers salvage and more with chiefs from across the US and Canada invited.

Dallas Arts Festival opens with Richardson Symphony concert

The Richardson Symphony Orchestra directed by Chris Xeros will launch the Dallas Summer Arts Festival II with a 3 p.m. concert Sunday at NorthPark Mall Dallas. The 70-member ensemble, formed in 1961, features professionals and amateurs and has served as the Dallas Metropolitan Ballet’s official orchestra. The program includes works by Herald Reger Shostakovich Rossini Britten Haydn and Wagner. The two week festival showcases a broad mix of paintings crafts plays and concerts, with all events free to the public.

Local Parker Pen founder names Golden Arrow Society member

Charles Williams of 108 Shady Wood Lane Richardson has been named to the Golden Arrow Society from the Parker Pen Company domestic sales force. The 12 new members were announced by Daniel Parker at Parker Pen’s national sales conference. Williams, with the company since 1960, is married with two children.
