Richardson to Sponsor City Tennis Tourney This Summer
The Richardson City Parks and Recreation Center will sponsor a tennis tournament July 11 to 23 with regional and state qualifiers. First and second place locals advance to regionals July 25 to 31 in Richardson, then state in Austin August 5 to 7. Open to municipal residents meeting amateur rules and regional entry requires prior local play and certification. Also notes entry limits per class and a $2.00 fee per event.

Two Prized Airedale Dogs Killed by Auto Traffic
Mr and Mrs Kelton Parker reported to police the death of two prized Airedale dogs valued at 100 dollars each. The animals were frightened by unauthorized fireworks near their 1106 Pacific home and ran into traffic at Plano and Arapaho Roads, found dead Tuesday morning after running into passing cars. The Parkers raised the dogs from pups and live with four children. the city prohibits shooting fireworks within limits.

Two Policemen Join Local Staff For Richardson Dept
The Richardson Police Department added two new recruits to their staff Tuesday. Both men are enrolled in a 10 week training program at the Dallas Police Academy and will become patrolmen upon graduation. Russ Ruddleston is 29 from Irving and Jerry Bardwell is 25 from Hermleigh. Ruddleston has two years of experience with Highland Park Police. Bardwell is a Sul Ross State College graduate, former science teacher, and junior high coach in Hermleigh.

First School Superintendent A E Grugett Dies at 82
A. E. Grugett longtime Richardson resident and first superintendent of the Richardson Independent School District died Sunday at 82. He lived at 324 Phillips and had prior service as a Dallas deputy county clerk for 40 years. He was an elder at First Christian Church and honored by Kiwanis in 1961. Funeral was held at Restland Memorial Park with interment there. Memorials go to the church building fund.

City Parks Sponsor Tourney At Heights Park
A city wide horseshoe and washer tournament hosted by the City Parks and Recreation Department as part of the summer program took place Tuesday at Heights Park. In the Boys Pee Wee division Steve Ammerman won first, Mark Collins second, Glen Baily third. in the girls division Stacy Sloan took first and Clair Ammerman was listed among winners.

Gasoline Fire Burns Bodkins Home in Kirby Lane Incident
A gasoline spill during backyard barbecue lit the Bodkins home at 625 Kirby Lane, causing about 1000 in damage. Mrs Bodkin and Mr Bodkin suffered first degree burns to their hands and arms and were treated by firefighters. Lt Glen Blackwood extinguished the blaze with a garden hose.
