Frances Clemmons, newly hired in Richardson, heads the city sign department. She designs and fabricates street and traffic signs, supervises two workers, and marks sign sites with wooden stakes. The job marks an equal opportunity hiring milestone in a department focused on precise sign construction and placement.
A 302 Murray Lane Richardson filmmaker Doug Smith created a 1970 comedy melodrama titled Incident in the Morning as part of a 28 minute film package Teenage Movies with Dick Van Dyke. Eastman Kodak offers the film free for group showings. Dr James Landes leads Richardson First Baptist Church and chairs the Chamber Education Committee. He also heads the Urban Strategy Committee for the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Landes recently spoke at Homes for Children workshop closing and oversees a teachers luncheon for 350 newcomers planned for Aug 14.
The Richardson City Plan Commission will hold a public hearing tonight at 8 in City Hall. North Texas Lumber seeks commercial zoning on Interurban Street to replace temporary zoning in the 400 block, about 600 feet south of Polk Street. A second hearing covers a variance to the 30 foot front building line and 35 percent lot coverage for Cottonwood Creek Estates homes. The panel will review Montessori Townhouses site plan, Prestonwood Central Apartments landscape plan, and a 7-Eleven at 1405 East Belt Line. Public hearings set for two zoning applications include a 29.3 acre Bucking ham Road area near Calf Colorado Railroad for local retail, office, and A1000M zoning, and a 55 acre tract north of Arapaho Road east of Yale Boulevard and west of Jupiter Road for A1100M with special conditions.

John Gary and the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under An shel Brusilow performed at Fair Park in an evening billed as An evening with John Gary. The singer delighted the audience with favorites and new numbers earning a standing ovation and an encore. Highlights included Grieg Peer Gynt Suite Fantasia on Green sleeves and Borodin Polovtsian Dances. The orchestra also performed Garys Warm and Tender Glow with lyrics by Tommy Leonetti. The event featured pianist Mark Franklin. The Fair Park Band Shell was renamed Dallas Summer Stage following a names contest won by Mrs. Donald J Campbell and Kalani Banks.
Police report a major six vehicle accident Wednesday afternoon on Central Expressway causing heavy traffic. One person, Gibson Bernhardt Cole of Columbia, S.C., sustained minor injuries and was taken to Presbyterian Hospital.
Weather outlook for Richardson predicts partly cloudy skies and higher temperatures Friday. Expect a low near 68 tonight and a Friday high around to 15 mph easterly winds, keeping conditions mild and dry.
Richardson City Council members study a North Texas Central Council of Governments project to establish a common police communications network. The plan would cost about 130000 locally, with 30000 funded by Richardson and 100000 by COG, providing two way radios and improved coverage for officers on patrol. The council tabled the resolution until July 17 to seek funding details and strings attached to federal money.
Richardson Recycling Center co chairmen Al Cash and Rex Naden urge public aid to fix persistent problems while praising city and sanitation department help keeping the operation running. Center hours are Friday 9 30 to 11 30 a m Saturday 9 a m to 4 30 p m and Sunday 12 30 to 4 30 p m. items must be washed and properly separated with cans crushed and labels removed. volunteers welcome by calling 234 1044 or 235 2490.
