SMU civil engineering associate professor Cecil H. Smith launches a two year study in Dallas to analyze unstable soils for residential building. The $37 000 FHA funded project runs two years with Mason Johnston & Associates and Fox Jacobs Construction Co. as consultants. The work includes field tests with concrete piers and steel piling and will develop sub surface support designs focusing on swelling clays in the West.

Two Accident Victims Released From Hospitals
Two teenage boys injured in separate Monday night accidents are home and well. Gary Vail 14 suffered serious lacerations on his left leg in a motorcycle crash at Floyd and Belt Line. he was taken to Presbyterian Hospital. Larry Lee O'Brien 14, driver of the motorcycle, was uninjured. James Laing Biddle 16 drove into a ditch on Coit after looking away from the road. his car sustained about 1000 dollars in damage and he was treated at Richardson General Hospital.

Record Number Of Entrants Expected In July 4 Parade
Gene Newman, chairman of the Haycee sponsored Old Fashioned Fourth of July Street Parade, announced a partial list of entrants including participants from Dallas and Garland. The lineup features the Mayor's car, decorated convertibles, D A R Richardson Chapter, Democratic Men's Club, Republican Women's Club, Richardson Jaycee Ettes, Miss Richardson Patty Merritt, and candidate D C Norwood. A circus themed float by R C Hawkins with Richardson Camp Fire Girls, an antique auto driven by Bud Reeves, Circle L Riding Club of Garland, First Bank and Trust mini motorized antique auto, and a decorated panel truck by Aubrey Linne are slated. Also planned are clowns, an Alexander's Ice Cream Shop float, and children on decorated bikes with flags. Entry details available from Newman at AD 14503 or at 5 15 p m starting Terrace Shopping Center. The parade travels Greenville Avenue to Beltline and on to RHS stadium. Participation urged for a successful event.

Willard Kilborn Rites Scheduled in Dallas
Funeral services for Willard Kilborn 65 of 717 Bruton Bend are set for 3 p.m. at Brewer-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Dallas. Kilborn died Wednesday in Ardmore Oklahoma from a heart attack while on business. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Cemetery. Kilborn born March 10 1899 in Cisco served in World War I three years and was a Shriner and a 32nd degree Mason. Survivors include his wife Lottie a daughter Mrs Sammy Law two brothers Joe Kilborn Hobbs New Mexico and Col John Kilborn San Antonio and two grandchildren Terry Lee and Deborah Kilborn. Mercury Heist At Richardson Junior High Reported
Richardson police say a break in at Abrams and Highland late Thursday or early Friday led to the loss of about two pounds of mercury. Detective Ray Walker warned of severe harm from mercury exposure, especially to children, as entry was made via a trap door and janitor’s closet. Candy machine was broken into and money left, science lab disrupted with broken tubes and mixed acids, and a damaged barometer yielded the missing mercury.
