The U S Supreme Court ruled that states may not restrict abortion in the first three months, may limit in the second trimester, and may ban it in the final three months except to save the mother’s life. Richardson residents react with strong support and opposition, debating morality and legality.
A series of interviews presents mixed views on abortion law. Teachers, businessmen, and housewives discuss early trimester rights, state authority, and the balance between a woman's rights and the unborn child. Several voices favor liberal limits while others urge personal or physician discretion. A respondent recalls illegal past abortion and condemns male or state control over a woman's body.
Internationally renowned dancer and choreographer George Skibine will direct the Dallas Civic Ballet for a February 4 performance at 2 p.m. in Richardson High School auditorium. A 17-member troupe will present a varied program sponsored by Richardson City Council of PTAs Cultural Arts Committee. Tickets available through Richardson Independent Schools or at the door.
Richardson police raided a private residence at 333 Pitman Saturday and seized 296 pounds of marijuana valued at 30000 dollars. Five suspects aged 17 to 26, four men and a woman, were arrested and jailed to face charges. Police also investigated two burglaries and an auto theft, with a 1956 MG reported stolen and later recovered by Dallas Police, and damages at J J Pearce High School.
The forecast for Richardson calls for fair skies and warmer conditions on Tuesday. Tonight's low around 35 degrees, with Tuesday's high near 68 degrees and light variable winds.
The Richardson City Council will meet at City Hall at 8 p.m. to consider plans from the City Plan Commission for a new mixed use industrial park district and revisions to allow compatible uses in industrial zones. Also on the docket is Ross Forney’s request for a mixed use industrial park on 188 acres at Greenville and Campbell Road, with a plan to fund it through bond issues. Bids will be awarded for city vehicles and paving Renn er Road west of the expressway.
Representative Dick Reynolds of District 33P returned from Austin after a shortened week for Lyndon Johnson's memorials. He argues the Open Meeting bill is too broad and should be amended to protect city councils and school boards, urging postponement for wider debate and to hear more governmental bodies. He supports broader ethics reforms and notes a heavy workload with 192 bills referred to committees.
