Richardson police now rely on volunteer families to shelter lost children until parents are found. Officials say about a dozen cases a year occur and call for immediate reporting when a child is found. One case involved three children returned to a $30,000 home after prior incidents of neglect or theft.

City offices closed for New Year holiday
Richardson city offices including the Public Library and Recreation Center will close for New Year’s Day with regular business resuming January 2. Registration for winter quarter classes at the Recreation Center on 711 Arapaho Road is under way for classes starting January 12, with schedules printed in the Daily News this week.

No tax increase planned by County Hospital District
The 1970 Dallas County Hospital District budget of 24 million was approved by the Board of Managers and sent to Commissioners. No increase in the 60 cent tax is planned. salaries and supplies are rising about 15.1 percent. The district expects 61.6 percent of income from taxes and 11.5 million in charity care.
