Bell seeks rehearing of Texas rate order
Southwestern Bell Telephone Company filed a motion on Tuesday for a rehearing of a 57.8 million rate order issued December 14 by the Texas Public Utility Commission. Bell contests more than two dozen points, arguing the commission exceeded powers, confiscated property, and failed to provide fair rates for a reasonable return to investors. The PUC had issued the ruling after Bell sought a 298.3 million rate hike on September 1, following three weeks of hearings. Bell implemented the new rates under protest on December 21.
