Winter Recreation Schedule At City Rec Center

The City publishes its Winter Recreation Schedule for the Rec Center at 711 Arapaho Road. Registration starts today for programs for pre schoolers to adults with varying class sizes and fees. If classes fill, additional sections may be added and a broad range of activities is offered from baton to stock market in arts crafts sports and language courses.

New Assistant Professor Appointed at UT Dallas Biology Division

Dr. Richard G. Cutler joins the Biology Division at The University of Texas at Dallas as assistant professor Coming from Brookhaven National Laboratory and a University of Houston PhD Cutler earned his BS in California He previously held a post doctoral fellowship at Brookhaven before joining scientific staff in 1968 His research spans developmental biology gerontology cell biochemistry and nucleic acid analysis.

Richardson Parks Head Certified by Texas Society

Al Johnson, superintendent of parks in Richardson, was certified by the Texas Recreation and Parks Society after passing qualifying exams at the state meeting. He holds a Bachelors of Science in agriculture and park administration from Texas Tech and has one year of experience in the field. He has served Richardson since May 1968 as park planner.

RISD programs gain statewide recognition feature

In December The Texas Outlook highlights Richardson ISD programs. Mark Twain Elementary’s student council is spotlighted with activities including hospitality and safety rules. A second feature covers a five year ecology field trip program led by Tom Whitman and Woody Harry where students collect, classify, and preserve flora and fauna specimens through hands on learning.

Richardson City Council Considers Bids Zoning Proposals

The Richardson City Council meets tonight at 8 in City Hall with three items on the agenda. They include bids on Maple Street repairs and the alley paving project, a public hearing on Zoning File No. 6938 for IM-2 zoning at St. Louis and Santa Fe Railway, and an ordinance rezoning four tracts at Belt Line and Plano Roads. The meeting is open to the public and invites residents to attend key portions.

New Years Day Deadline Changes Announced

Advertising deadlines for the Daily News editions on Thursday January 1 and Friday January 2 are moved up. Ads for the Thursday edition are due 9 45 am Wednesday and 11 30 am Wednesday for Friday’s publication. Classified Reader Ads must be in by 3 pm Wednesday. Editorial copy for Thursday is due 10 am Wednesday and noon Wednesday for Friday. Office will close Thursday and reopen 8 am Friday at 111 East Main.

Sailing ships spark interest in literature class

Debbie Shook a Richardson High School junior explored early sailing ships as a by-product of an American literature unit on Billy Budd. Guided by teacher Phyllis Dawson and aided by her younger brother Kevin, she created ship drawings and model dissections to explain nautical terms to classmates.
