The Richardson City Council will not meet tonight because the agenda has no items. All business will resume next Monday at 8 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall.
Partly cloudy and cool conditions prevail with a low near 40 tonight. Tuesday’s high expected in the lower 60s. Light and variable winds.

A third public hearing by the Texas Senate Interim Committee to Study Insurance Rates will feature testimony from two Penn State professors. The session at 9 a.m. in Dallas will evaluate the proposed automobile rate increase, review profit formulas, compare with other states, and consider a model recommendation to protect public interests.

He says collective effort can reduce accidents injuries and fatalities.
Richardson officials warn of winter fire risk from hot coals and ashes dumped into trash. Two sanitation truck fires cost over 200 in repairs in the last month, with no injuries. Fire Marshall A E Dandridge cautions costs to taxpayers rise, while Public Works Superintendent Ray Walker cites risky disposal habits and other causes.
Two separate weekend fatal accidents in Richardson claim lives. Gary Gene McNeese, 19, of 1237 Cypress died in a motorcycle crash on Waterview Drive near Hamilton Lane after losing control. Patrick Childers, 22, of 116 S Bowser died when his westbound car hit a light pole on Arapaho Road near Bowser Road. a passenger Charles Sudduth was injured.

Mendel Rivers longtime chairman of the House Armed Services Committee died at 1 40 a m CST Monday after heart surgery at the University of Alabama Medical Center He was 65 The South Carolina Democrat faced continuing heart failure days after a plastic mitral valve replacement and prior heart stoppages Rivers leaves a wife two daughters and a son and will be succeeded as armed services chair by F Edward Hebert in January
Mr and Mrs David Atkins 1117 West Ore welcomed their son Devi Atkins II on Christmas Day at Presbyterian Hospital arriving at 9 46 a m The birth marked the family’s first child and the holiday arrival was noted by local sources
The Board of Control may replace long sedans with Volkswagen cars for state use if bids stay high. Executive Director Homer A Foerster cited rising costs with November bids at 3523 per car versus 3224 in May and 2422 in November 1969. The board weighs foreign cars as Ford GM and Chrysler face a government suit over discounts. replies due December 23.
Kiwanis Club of Richardson announces a regular meeting tomorrow night at Hub Bard's Cafeteria in a closing session without a program. Charter member Ben Judd received a 16 year perfect attendance badge at last Tuesday's gathering. Bruce Smith and John Makuta, both from Lloyd V. Berkner high school Key Club, attended as guests. Richardson high school Key Clubbers visited Denton State School on Dec 22 for an entertainment and fellowship program, earning the 1970 Texas Oklahoma Key Club International award for best single project among 165 clubs.
A preliminary tally shows 42 people died on Texas highways over the Christmas period, 10 fewer than the DPS forecast. Fires killed three and a 9-year-old boy, Frank Watt, died in a miscellaneous accident. One three-person fatal crash occurred in Navasota killing William Lee, Claudie Steptoe and John Lee.
A Havana report says hijackers aiming for Cuba express unhappiness and segregation from other nationalities. In California a dispute between lettuce growers and pickers escalates into a boycott with protest signs. A proposal for a three day work week circulates but many prefer a two day week.
