At weekly meeting the City Council accepted bids for city trash containers and set two public hearings. City Manager R B Sherrill announced bids with Motor and Truck Equipment of Dallas totaling seven thousand eight hundred eighteen dollars for ten eight cubic yard containers and twenty four cubic yard containers.
Daily News will shift deadlines for editorial and advertising this weekend due to the New Year’s holiday. General Manager Bob Canon says the changes let staff spend the holiday with family. News items must be submitted by noon Friday, Dec. 29.
R G Martin 801 N Waterview Dr named Richardson chairman for the Kidney Foundation of North Texas annual fund drive next month. Dallas County area volunteers to be enlisted as funds support kidney education and drug bank programs in Dallas area and related civic notices follow through the local press.
The staff invites Richardson residents to a holiday open house at the First National Bank of Richardson during regular banking hours Friday. Refreshments of cake and coffee will be served tomorrow at the bank located at 812 Central Expressway.
Dallas and Tarrant counties seek a federal grant for UP with Education, a mobile counseling unit with college counselors aimed at dropouts, young mothers, and working adults seeking training. Dr. Priest notes mobile counseling has been discussed nationwide but details remain unclear.
The Rev. Dr. George M. Flattery, age 31, former pastor of Calvary Chapel in Richardson, is named president of the International Correspondence Institute, a new program of the Assemblies of God Foreign Missions Department. He previously served as educational consultant and studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Fire department and ambulance crews responded to multiple minor incidents ahead of Christmas. Calls included an electrical display short at White's Store in Richardson Heights, a gasoline washdown at Belt Line and Floyd, a trash fire at Richardson East Junior High, and clothes dryer fire in a South Waterview apartment. Additional blazes at Spring Valley Abrams, a Dempster Dumpster fire, a gas leak at 1311 Cloverdale, and a carpet fire after lighting a canoe at 340 Custer were contained with no major damage. Ambulance teams treated a 68 year old woman in a department store parking lot and transported Mrs. E M Fulton to Richardson General and later to Dallas. Saturday brought transport of Mrs Betty Dickens of Plano to Dallas Presbyterian Hospital with oxygen aboard. The crew also tended Paul Kerwin at 802 Warren.
Area merchants are alerted after Greenville reports multiple counterfeit twenty dollar notes. Bills carry serial number L40328946D and a 1950D series with darker green seal and stamp. Secret Service in Dallas is involved. locals advised to deter the passer and report details to authorities.
Three Richardson businessmen are among newly elected officers of DataStrat Incorporated, announced by its West Texas directors. Ed L. Dillon is president, James W. Chism treasurer, and Ralph E. Tenny assistant secretary and vice president.
