Dallas Mayor Erik Jonsson will address the fifth annual Richardson Garland YWCA luncheon at Wyatt's Café in Garland. Rev C E Hanawalt will deliver the invocation. The combined YWCA facility is in Garland and about one third of students come from Richardson.
James R. Cullington of Richardson is among 13 sophomore UT students in a Galveston medical branch study. The program, led by Dr M Mason Guest with Kenneth Walker and other faculty, aims to guide top undergraduates toward biomedical careers and offers tentative admission to UTMB pending academics and MCAT scores.
A state wide projection by the Texas Water Development Board and UT Bureau of Business Research estimates the Dallas area will reach about 3.6 million inhabitants by 2020 with Dallas County at roughly 1.88 million. Harris, Tarrant, Collin and other top counties show sharp growth, aligning with urban concentration in 15 counties. The study supports the forthcoming state water plan and outlines regional population shifts through 2020.
Santa Claus visited the Richardson Lions Club family Christmas party at Heights Elementary School last week. More than 200 people attended and donated clothing, food, and toys for the needy. The event featured a buffet dinner and entertainment by Tonda Johnson, Jay Johnson, and Bobo the Clown.
Maggie Kennedy reports on a Northwood Hills Christmas parade organized by Susan Canhary and Roy Ferguson. A 14 member group funded candy toys and decorations, with Roy Ferguson, a Richardson High sophomore, as the oldest marcher and Santa Claus handing out gifts along a route from the Canham home to Meandering Way and back.
Jerry Owens announced that E. G. Bud Gatlin was elected president for 1966 by the Chamber of Commerce board. Gatlin, a Huffhines Murphy & Gatlin partner, has led the Public Relations Committee and serves as director of Richardson Heights National Bank and Richardson Savings & Loan. He also chaired the Bond Study Committee and is a former Richardson Jaycees president. The slate includes Loyd Dennis as first vice president and John Pittman as treasurer. The annual banquet to install officers is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday January 18 at Holiday Inn Central.
The Richardson Civic Theaters announces the cast for Bus Stop directed by David Carey. Performances run February 10, 11, 12, and February 18, 19 at Theater Of Main with Judy Coffee Cherie Ron Dodson Bo Lou Korbus Virgil Ernest Bentley Dr Lyman Larry McCord Carl Joan McNulty Grace Jerry Nickels the Sheriff and Darleen Dunham Alma headline a largely fresh Richardson lineup.
City of Richardson proclaims January 1966 as Red Cross Home Safety Month urging citizens to join accident prevention efforts. The proclamation cites home accidents occurring every 28 minutes with a fatality roughly every 72 hours and asks families to learn hazard recognition and action. Mayor Herbert M. Ryan signs the declaration on December 16, 1965.
Funeral services were held for Mary Kay Bauman age 40 at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Dallas with burial at Calvary Hill Cemetery. She died Monday at Maxfield Clinic Hospital after being hospitalized since December 20. Survived by three children and her mother, she taught second grade at St. Paul the Apostle Elementary in Richardson. Lamar-Smith Mortuary handled arrangements.
