SCAS reports great strides toward scientific leadership
The Southwest Center for Advanced Studies reports major progress in graduate education during 1967. It ranks among Texas top four in research with 90 projects across Space Sciences to Pion Dosimetry and more while expanding programs via the 250 foot TAGER TV tower and linked courses for 1,000 students. The year features 324 publications including two textbooks and recognition of five faculty by national awards. The center grew to 3% staff, hosted 92 seminars with 143 visiting speakers, and expanded facilities across Technology Park and campuses. A name change to Southwest Center for Advanced Studies and plans for a $3 million, three-year private funding campaign to begin March 1968 are noted.

Republic Aluminum Emerges From Reorganization
Republic Aluminum Company of Richardson has completed Chapter X reorganization filed Sept 17, 1965 with debts near 2 million dollars. Trustee William J. Stamps Ready as New Rates Take Effect
Millions of new 6 cent and 10 cent stamps are being sent to post offices ahead of the January 7 rate hike. The Bureau of Printing and Engraving is producing large sheets of stamps with embossed envelopes while dispensers scales and charts undergo adjustments. The rate increase moves 914.6 million dollars in new revenue, mainly from a penny rise in regular stamps, a 2 cent boost for airmail and new 5 cent postcard and greeting card rates.
