Dallas health officials question the future of swine flu clinics after suspending the immunization program. Dr. Robert Browning says the optimal vaccination window passed and vaccines may not be available. If organized, a clinic could not vaccinate children until March 20 with boosters.
Richardson city officials say council members have long allowed only civic organizations to sell Christmas trees in nonbusiness locations. A 1974 policy requires approval from council members for any civic group, association, store owner, or other non profit selling trees, framing it as city support for the public.
City officials including Mayor and City Manager defend restricting Christmas tree sale permits to established businesses and civic organizations. They cite discretionary rules to keep money in Richardson and prevent nonlocal sellers from monopolizing tree sales, noting a few nonlocal requests.
Megan Mastal, daughter of Donald and Mrs. Mastal, is highlighted as Senior of the Month for Pearce High School. A Sunday fire at Jo Ann Shipman’s home 530 Newberry Drive caused about 20 000 in damage and left seven firefighters with inhalation injuries from zinc aluminum oxide fumes. The roof was engulfed when responders arrived at 6 52 p m. 11 people were inside. one resident had a minor cut. Damages at the adjacent 526 Ridge Dale Drive home were limited to minor fire damage. Stolen vehicles burglaries and thefts were also reported over the weekend.
The city marks a holiday Friday affecting sanitation services. Tuesday and Friday routes will be reduced to one pickup this week on Tuesday. For schedule questions, call R C Wells at 235 8331. City Hall and most departments close Friday.
