A string of 14 colored bulbs was stolen from Mrs. Maxine Wulf’s home at 822 Lockwood. Bobbie Jo Gant reported four wire wheel hubcaps missing from a tube near her apartment as the Yule Light Thief continued activity in the area.
Richardson High School Golden Eagle Band wowed about 3,000 Chicago listeners at the Midwest National Band Clinic in the Sherman House Grand Ballroom. Under Director Joseph L. Frank the group rehearsed six months to reach superb form, delivering selections from The Conqueror to Incantation and Dance.
The Richardson City Council prepares for a lengthy regular session Monday night with 18 agenda items. Four ordinances for adoption cover zoning changes sidewalk standards and permits for a cleaning plant. a bank property rezoning and an auto sales facility are also proposed. Bids on water mains sewers a new street sweeper and rolling stock equipment will be opened. Three sign variance appeals from Liberty Sign Co Germco Hemes and O K Jones & Son seek variances by size. A resolution to delegate sign appeal duties to the Zoning Board of Adjustment is expected. The Planning Commission submits three letters of recommendation including a preliminary East Side Manor plat a Graduate Research Center site plan and a Richardson Heights No 16 plat replat.
The Lake Highlands Wildcat Band and Chorus present their annual Christmas concert in the high school auditorium Monday at 7 30. Directed by Howard Dunn and Miss Marjean Edgar the ensembles perform Bach chorales sacred and popular tunes to celebrate the season. About 150 students participate with no admission charge.
The Sears Roebuck Foundation funds a full tuition scholarship at the Southwestern Police Academy for a Richardson Police Department member. Foundation representative E. C. McKinzie presented the award to Capt. Jim Robbins. The academy session runs three months starting January 4 and March 26 at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
Mild warming in Richardson reduced risk as freezing rain left a light glaze on windshields with no major accidents overnight. Forecasts expect more sleet and freezing drizzle statewide while bridges remain slick and temperatures rise into the 40s by weekend.
Police search for a thief who stole men’s clothing and $20 worth of groceries from the auto of Mrs. Joye Flanagan near Wyatt’s in Heights Shopping Center. Groceries were scattered near the looted vehicle as theft occurred while the owner attended to chores.
Richardsonites prepared for a cold snap with antifreeze in radiators and protected plumbing while the Richardson Golden Eagle Band performed superbly at the Midwest National Band Festival in Chicago. The band plans to return Monday on a Santa Fe streamliner, and local staff wish readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
