Chinchilla project grows at Canyon Creek Elementary

Sixth grade science club students at Canyon Creek Elementary are raising chinchillas donated by a local widow. Sponsor Leonard Nelson says students study temperature, diet, and health while tracking growth. Parents volunteer to help design an outdoor enclosure and plan a potential fundraising venture. Y to host open house at Richardson YMCA

The Richardson YMCA sponsors a Family Worship Service for all ages tomorrow and Thursday at 7 p.m. with an open house to follow. Jerry Harral Son, director of the local Y, says Christmas centers on family love and traditions. Services and house are open to the public.

Richardson ISD sets special meeting on energy plan

The Richardson Independent School District Board of Trustees will meet at 7 p.m. at the administration building to discuss three actions including Governor Briscoe’s energy conservation plan, bids for a new Pearce High auditorium, and preliminary plans for a new elementary near Campbell and Hillcrest. The plan calls for setting thermostats at 68 to 78 degrees, shorter class periods, afternoon activities, and possible four hour or full day schedules during a three month emergency period from January to March.

Richardson City Council to Meet for Transportation Study and More

The Richardson City Council will meet at 7:00 p.m. in City Hall to consider a resolution authorizing the City Manager to sign an agreement with the Texas Highway Department for the Dallas-Fort Worth regional Transportation Study and to appoint representatives to related committees. The agenda includes contracts with Santa Fe Railway Co. for a water line crossing, plan commission letters on several plats, zoning changes for large industrial distribution centers, a temporary building permit for Community Christian Church, bid bids for an Interurban Street project and city wrecker service, vehicle purchases for city departments, advertising bids for traffic signal equipment, and appointments to city boards for the new year.

Lone Star Gas Expects No Immediate Grand Prairie Rate Increase

Lone Star Gas has no immediate plan for a rate rise in Grand Prairie. District manager W E Humber says Dallas industrial rate requests are separate and require City Council approval, noting Dallas is the only area city needing council sign off for such increases.

UTD-IPS joins satellite experiment to study Earth's atmosphere

UTD-IPS scientists led by Dr. William B. Hanson join Atmospheric Explorer 51 launched from Vandenberg California. The 1450 pound satellite carries 14 instruments including Hanson's Retarding Potential Analyzer and Hoffman's Magnetic Ion Mass Spectrometer. The mission aims to map ultraviolet driven processes in the thermosphere and upper atmosphere and monitor orbital changes from drag and propulsion. Burglary and Theft Incidents Reported Across City

Police report a Plano youth attempted shoplifting at Skaggs Albertson Drugs in Dal-Rich Village, valued at $52.50, leading to theft over $50 arrest. Northrich Baptist Church burglarized over the weekend with no value or entry point known. Two coats stolen from a Spectronic Co. party, about $80 loss. Unlocked vehicle at 811 Warren Way had $120 cash and four blank checks stolen.

United Way Funds Distribute to Richardson Development Center

The Richardson Development Center Inc received United Way support totaling 25 943 as an affiliated agency of United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. It was among 14 child care agencies funded for 1974 with Dallas campaign raising over 10 million dollars and 9 891 293 allocated to agencies plus a 144 571 reserve for emergencies.

Garland Weather Forecast Raises Cloudiness and Wind

Garland forecast calls for increased cloudiness Tuesday with southerly winds 10 to 20 mph. The low Monday night should be about 42 degrees while the high Tuesday climbs to around 65 with pleasant afternoon conditions.
