Mrs WB Collins reports theft from her parked car in Heights Village. A coat, scarf and kindergarten class photographs were taken. police later recovered most photos scattered near Dal Rich Shopping Center two miles away.
Police ask the public to watch for two Richardson youths aged 17 and 15 who vanished from home. They are believed to have left on a motorcycle owned by the younger boy.
Thousands of letters pour into a Hoosier village as Santa Claus answers. Children worldwide request toys, games, and novelty items from spacephones to a 12 cent coin, with some noting family needs and others asking for gifts for others. Local volunteers from the Santa Claus American Legion and Forty and Eight help reply, noting Santa may not fulfill all requests but will do his best.
A sharp cold front barreled into the city from Canada causing wind gusts and a dramatic temperature drop from around 70 to 28 degrees by dawn. Forecasters warn of continued cold with a chance of freezing rain over the next two days as the front heads toward Texas.
A string of Christmas lights was reported stolen at 318 Brookwood from Joe Kabanek of Richardson. Police noted continued thief activity in the area as investigations proceed.
The Richardson School Board formed a 15 member Textbook Committee for 1965 66 to select texts from publishers in line with State Board rules. Members include Supt J J Pearce Mrs Jayne Harper Mrs Carolyn Metcalf and others from Lake Highlands North Richland Hills and Richardson campuses.
One hundred band members and 22 chaperons traveled from Dallas to Chicago aboard three passenger cars on a Santa Fe train. They checked into the Sherman House, toured the Museum of Natural History, rehearsed for a Friday concert at the Midwest National Band Clinic, and enjoyed bridge and other games on the trip.
Richardson High School students run Operation Christmas Gift to donate to causes and groups. Angels Inc of Dallas will receive this year’s gift from the school as 19 clubs join in. Past gifts supported CARE and Guatemala playground equipment, then a Dallas County nursery kitchen set and supplies.
Citizens and police note increased shopper caution as Christmas nears with seven days left. Merchants fear professional shoplifters and report wide berths by shops in Richardson. Local residents including Fran Cordell Frank Wicker Beverly Hasbrouck Mary Ed Edwards relay festive greetings from Los Angeles and KPflugerville.
