Two-Week Holiday Begins Friday in Richardson ISD
The Richardson Independent School District starts a two week Christmas to New Year break at 3 p.m. Friday for over 29 250 pupils and 1 250 teachers. School resumes on Jan 5 at 8 30 a m ending the recess with first semester closing Jan 16. Some staff will be on duty at the School Administration Building on Dec 22 23 29 30 31. Tiny puppies at the Richardson Animal Shelter will be among animals available during Open House next weekend with Animal Control Officer George Slaton on hand to assist visitors.

RHS Talon and Eagle win state journalism awards
Richardson High School publications the Talon and the Eagle won top state honors at the Texas High School Press Association convention in Denton. The Talon earned All-Texas Newspaper honors and six individual awards, with five in writing, while the Eagle earned a Certificate of Merit for the second year.

Water Pollution Control Training Aims for Area Programs
City Water Department workers J. D Payne Jerry W MecGarrah John W Kelsey and James H Foster Jr among about 40 municipal staff in the Federal Water Pollution Control Administration Manpower and Training program. The nationwide effort funds institutional and on the job instruction to address sub professional shortages in water pollution control. Curricula cover GED plant design operations and equipment training. Training spans classroom and in plant work at municipal facilities across the North Central Texas Council of Governments region.

World in 2000 to be Lions speaker topic

Open House At Richardson Shelter Highlighting Pets For Christmas
The Richardson Animals Shelter reports eighty two dogs and cats as the current resident count with an Open House planned next weekend. Officers Slaton and Lynch note daily pickups and calls. intake can reach up to 42 animals at once with twelve cat cages and eight dog pens available. Dogs and cats are sold from 2 to 10 dollars based on breed and care time. licenses and rabies vaccines are required for dogs over six months, with a one year license available through City Hall or the Shelter. Cats do not require licenses.

Three Richardson students named in National English Awards
Three Richardson High School students Martha Matzen Janet Hibbs and Rebecca Rumbo earned outstanding high school student status in the 1969 national Achievement Awards by the National Council of Teachers of English Martha a RHS senior Janet also a senior and Rebecca a summer graduate had entries judged at state level before advancing to the national contest. Their recognition will place their names on college admissions lists for potential scholarships with approximately 80 percent of applicants receiving aid.
