Fire runs fell to 67 in November from 69 in October, with 384 men and 169 man hours. Ambulance runs totaled 46. 62.30 man hours. Only three homes and 89 businesses were inspected, while 36 schools and assemblies were visited and seven burn permits issued.
Richardson Independent School District reports 26,585 students during the first week of December. Elementary enrollment stands at 15,085, junior high at 6,496, and senior high at 4,996, with third grade the largest single grade at 2,589 pupils.
Richardson Symphony Orchestra guests pianist Bomar Cramer and conductor Chris Xeros delivered a inspired Schumann A minor Piano Concerto with strong ensemble support. The performance showed warmth and intensity, save for ragged violas in a 20 bar third movement section. The program opened with Corelli Christmas Concerto and included Lerner and Lowe Camelot and Griegs Norwegian Dances, all well rendered with some violin harshness on occasion.
Federal suit filed by War on Poverty Legal Services Project and SNCC seeks a permanent injunction to bar sheriffs deputies and constables from issuing warrants tied to the welfare office sit-in. The mothers and SNCC members are plaintiffs with 34 named individuals amid broader enforcement challenges.
A 16 minute film Electronic Residence tells TAGER television story to a national audience. Closed circuit TV with talkback from remote classrooms shown to national bodies in Washington. TAGER, a non profit formed in 1965, links five campuses and 10 industrial sites in North Central Texas.
The Richardson Golden Eagle Band earned a UT Music Department invite to a forty five minute Austin concert. It was the only high school band invited in Texas at the clinic hosted for band directors to preview new music. The group impressed with selections including Mosaico De Mexico and Verdi’s Force of Destiny.
Dallas Area Tuberculosis Association reports heavy demand as about 400000 Christmas Seals letters were mailed since November 1 to area families and firms. Executive Director Dale W. Knotts confirms seals are being mailed and new apartment dwellers added to mailing list. By Monday, $115,798.23 raised toward a $185,000 goal across 10 counties, with Dallas leading at $96,878.93.
