Youths’ curfew bill fails as Richardson City Council debates parental responsibility for minors. The panel unanimously passes a three percent tax hike to expand environmental health facilities, opposing a steel plant on a flood plain and backed by City Manager Shipman.
Congressman Jim Collins announces a bill granting a 300 dollar tax credit for Americans over 65 with income under 6500 to offset property taxes. Eligible homeowners or renters will have tax portions or payments from the Treasury up to 300 dollars.
Police reported theft over 50 from West and Browning Construction Co in Dallas at the 200 block of St Johns Drive. 50 sheets of plywood valued at 450 were missing. A burglary in the 1300 block of Magnola saw loose change worth 15 taken. Gibson's reported a shoplifter, two pair of pants a sweater and a flight kit valued at 23.58 seized and the suspect arrested for theft under 5 and released on 25 bond.
The annual Marine Corps Reserves Toys for Tots drive collects new or good used toys in RISD elementary schools on Wednesday and Thursday, December 15 and 16 to aid underprivileged Dallas County children. Last year the Richardson district gathered over 15 000 toys.
The Richardson area will see decreasing cloudiness and rising temperatures Friday. Tonight's low near 42 degrees and Friday's high around 65 with lighter winds.
Ugly weather again forces the postponement of the 1st Annual Richardson Christmas Parade to Thursday, December 16 at 6 30 PM. Parade chairman and Police Chief J W Golden says the delay ensures children can enjoy the event.
The Richardson City Plan Commission meeting is canceled so members may attend the annual Board and Commission Dinner hosted by the Richardson City Council. The dinner honors volunteers and begins at 6 30 PM at the Holiday Inn.
The Woods family doggedly search for their 12 year old cat Jinx who roosts on rooftops. A helicopter rented from Redbird Airport scoured nearby rooftops after Jinx vanished Sunday night. Mrs Woods two sons and pilot persisted amid bad weather hoping for clues or a safe return. The family asks anyone with information to contact them at 235 2040 or 742 6401.
Kiwanis Clubs of Richardson and Richardson Central stage a pancake flip at Richardson High School cafeteria Saturday from 6 30 a m to 7 30 p m. Proceeds fund tuition scholarships for local seniors and support Key Club activities plus YMCA and YWCA programs in Richardson.
The YMCA at 810 Custer Road hosts an outdoor family worship service Friday at 6 30 p m to wind up Y Indian Guide Week. Indian Guide director Jerry Haralson says boys will bring gifts for the Indian Center in Dallas and help decorate the tree with toys and clothes to share.
The Lake Highlands High School band directed by Eddie Green will perform in the Mid West Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago on December 17. They are the only band from the south and southwest among groups from New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. The group was selected after a May planning period and submitted a tape for judges. Three guest conductors will lead the concert: William Revelli, Mark Hindsley, and Joseph Frank. They will perform mostly recently published works plus a few old numbers. The program includes Prayers in Space by William Latham, inspired by astronaut space missions, and the piece was first performed by Richardson High School last year with Shawnee Press publishing it promptly.
