Richardson youths forum calls for better family school police ties

Town Meeting on Youth in Richardson drew over 100 residents who brainstormed solutions to lack of communication among families, schools, and law enforcement. Community members proposed publishing names of repeat juvenile offenders only after conviction and expanding family counseling and teen crisis hotlines.

Richardson Fire Department November activity report details

In November the Richardson Fire Department answered 53 calls, up from October and down from November 1966, totaling 597 calls for the first 11 months of the year. Ambulance and rescue runs totaled 51 with 13 miscellaneous calls, bringing the monthly fire plus rescue total to 118. Man hours reached 218 hours 58 minutes. There were 1,383 total calls to date. The department conducted three home inspections, visited six businesses, and seven teen schools or assemblies, with 17 industries called, five permits issued, and 236 special hazards investigated. There was one county fire run, plus ten automobile and eleven dwelling fires. A gas leak alarm, nine grass fires, three trash fires, and seven smoke investigations occurred. Property involved in fires for November valued at $139,200, yearly total $1,968,240, with buildings valued at $105,000 and contents at $34,200. Insurance involved totaled $131,320, including $94,800 for buildings and $36,520 for contents. insurance losses paid were $9,390 with $100 uninsured and nine claims pending. No fire deaths occurred. Training hours totaled 670 for November and 9,042.5 hours for the year, up from 582 hours and 8,005.5 in the prior year. Causes included careless smoking, children playing with fire, juveniles mischief, and electrical appliances and wiring.

Free holiday greetings for servicemen taped in Richardson

Richardson families with service members overseas can tape free holiday greetings at the Richardson Chamber of Commerce on Friday December 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mrs. W. T. Erickson will lead the Voices From Home program, sponsored by the Dallas County Red Cross and the Chamber. Each message runs about eight minutes and will be mailed overseas before Christmas.

Chamber Banquet Tickets On Sale For Senator Tower Speech

Tickets for the January 6 Chamber of Commerce Banquet are $6 each and on sale from ticket committee members led by Dave Kaplan. The event at Holiday Inn Central features Senator John Tower as guest speaker, with Chamber officials expecting near capacity attendance.

Elementary schools orchestras present free concert tonight

Richardson elementary students form three orchestras and perform five numbers each at 8 p.m. in the High School Auditorium. The program includes a violin duet Greensleeves by Stephanie Gunn and Michiyo Nonaka. Conductors are Phyllis Gifford Libby Ralston and Mariha Williams. The concert is free and open to the public.
