Carbon monoxide poses a serious danger in Richardson as cold weather keeps people indoors. Fire Chief Richard Russell urges furnace servicing and proper ventilation, noting headaches dizziness and nausea from exposure. Call AD 5-4515 for a Richardson Fire Department CO check.
Bill Turnage a Dallas based family therapist with ten years in Richardson will address the Richardson Jaycees at Hubbard’s Cafeteria. He leads Family Counseling Associates and will discuss Parent Child Communication Obstacles. He holds UT degrees and has worked in Timberlawn Public Health Service Dallas Juvenile Court Tarant County and Southwestern Medical School roles.
Invocation pledge of allegiance and minutes lead the session with a public hearing on alley paying assessments for Job 166. Bids are opened for Lockwood Tank repair, paving the maneuver area at the fire drill tower, trash containers, and selective signal equipment. City Plan Commission reviews Prairie Creek Estates No 2 subdivision plat.
The Graduate Research Center of the Southwest reorganized into eleven committees to connect 86 members with specific interests. Chairman A Earl Cullum Jr called it a step to boost member involvement and access to reports, papers, talks, and seminar invitations. Each committee includes a liaison from faculty or staff and will meet at least twice yearly.
Associates at the J C Penney Company in Richardson will receive a year end special payment. Checks go to regular and part time associates employed on or before December 31 1965 excluding management staff. Manager Loyd Dennis notes it reflects company welfare efforts.
Chrysler Boat Corporation expands with a 48 000 square foot addition in Plano, Texas, doubling fiberglass boat production and boosting employment. The $1.5 million project includes warehousing initially with equipment to follow, and 650 workers currently at the plant eight miles north of Richardson.
The Richardson Amateur Radio Club announces a 10 meter net tonight at 9 p.m. on 28.6 megacycles. The net welcomes callers on any mode and runs every Monday unless a special meeting is set. The next club meeting is Dec 12 at 8 p.m. in the Dallas Federal Savings and Loan Community Room.
Firefighters responded to a weekend alarm at a fashionable Dallas residence and extinguished a blaze causing about 20 000 dollars in damage. Investigators cited a short circuit in an adjoining electrically heated area as the probable cause.
About 350 representatives from a broad North Texas area attended the first annual Gymnastic Clinic at the Richardson Recreation Center on Arapaho Road. The Richardson Independent School District co sponsored with the Richardson Parks and Recreation Department.
Firefighters investigated four gas leaks a grass fire a trash fire and a car fire between Monday and Thursday. Four ambulance calls were reported. Notable incidents include a gas leak at 1001 Newberry Fred Sawyer home and a later church gas leak at Abrams Road Church of Christ. A 1964 compact car burned near Arapaho Road with $25 damage. A gas line break at Kaufman and Sherman Streets caused large gas escape from a 4 inch line.
Spring Valley Elementary School opened in 1960 with wildlife nearby including a mother quail and 20 quail as 14 teachers and 400 students arrived. By 1967 Richardson area growth brought 800 students and 27 teachers, with six new classrooms planned for fall. Principal Durward Stewart leads a staff active in the Spring Valley News Flash newsletter.
The Richardson Independent School District may discuss a federal hearing request regarding the Civil Rights Act of 1964 at a 7:30 p.m. meeting in the Administration Building at 400 South Greenville Avenue. The district’s Board of Trustees agenda did not list the item, but officials say the matter, now under legal advisement, could be discussed.
Richardson Civic Theatre delivers a strong holiday production of Little Women led by Ronald Dodson and Pam Ralston. The four sisters Jo Amy Meg and Beth receive standout performances from Haines Edmonds Winters and Jones with lavish costumes and professional lighting and sound enhancing the stage mood.
A busy Richardson weekend sees fog and misty rain but shoppers flock to Christmas tree lots at the Police Reserve and JCA on Arapaho Road. Richardson's Men's Club and local stores offer wide tree selections for the season.
