The city council rejected Tim Byrne's request to establish local retail zoning on 3.5 acres of a 10 acre tract at Collins Boulevard and Plano Road citing lack of demonstrated need and planning. Councilmen Hern and others voiced concerns while Joseph Duggan dissented.
Richardson resident bridge ace Jim Jacoby scores well at a big pairs championship as area educators plan a dinner honoring state and national legislators.
A three member civil service trial board will hear the dismissal appeal of former Richardson Police Sgt William Pool at a 7 30 p m Wednesday public hearing in the Richardson Public Library. City council members Pete Rollafson and Tom Ewbank and board chairman Wilson Eden will participate. Pool was dismissed Nov 12 for alleged conduct unfit for the department and for not devoting full duty time to police work.
City officials see the Saturday bond election as under very favorable market conditions. A 15.8 million issue aims to avoid new taxes while leveraging low rates to fund permits and expansions. Officials note a strong market, rising construction, and solid ratings expected to keep costs down for Richardson Independent School District and city projects.
Lucas Franklin Eskew arrived in Chicago on Thanksgiving night joining twelve other Korean children awaiting adoptive parents. Linda and Mark Eskew of Richardson welcomed their four and a half month old son, noting no special qualifications are needed besides a stable home. Adoption costs vary by income, and resources exist through the David Livingstone Adoption Program in Tulsa and the Holt Agency in Oregon.
Fourteen year old Robert Larson son of Keith and Mrs Larson of 1600 Marquette Dr Richardson leads a door to door campaign to promote Richardson's 15.7 million bond measure. As Eagle Scout project he organizes fellow Troop 51 members to canvass about 1000 homes near Huffhines Park while leading from the front with posters and leaflets. He also drums with the Richardson Junior High band and cites the need for an east side recreation center due to crowding at the west side facility.
