Dallas man killed in motorcycle race accident
Roy Steve Peery, 20, of 15716 El Estado, died after a collision with fellow rider Don Kurt Hatfield, 16, during a trial run at Rabbit Run Raceway on North Central Expressway. Hatfield, listed in very serious condition at Presbyterian Hospital, was transported by plane ambulance. The collision occurred before the race began. Hatfield is a Richardson High School student, and police also investigated property destruction in a separate incident.

City Council to hear fuel bid recommendation from City Manager

Garland bids for civic center exceed projections
Bids opened last week for the Garland civic center more than doubled original estimates. LaRoe Building Co. submitted the low bid of 8.544 million dollars, with Manhattan Construction Co. and Robert E. McKee Inc. each bidding 8.977 million. Earlier projections had pegged costs around 4.9 million, while the 1970 bond program earmarked 4 million for construction including land, with potential land costs up to 800 thousand dollars.
